Exciting 30 Days

I've been waiting for this last event to happen before posting & it did yesterday.

We have two new grandchildren!

DD#2 gave birth to a beautiful baby girl on September 15, 2010 (6 lbs. 10 oz. & 19"). Her name is Sophia. She is precious, petite, & has tons of long jet black hair. Sophia is a very peaceful baby and just starting to seriously examine her world. Mom had an easy all natural delivery with a midwife. A few early latching problems but within a week Mom & enfant had settled into a routine.

DD#1 gave birth yesterday, October 18, 2010, to a strong, healthy, & active baby boy. His name is Colton & he joined the world at 8 lbs. 6 oz & 22". Colton also has lots of hair a bit lighter than Sophia's. DD#1 is also nursing but Colton was uninterested last night. They're in another time zone so I have to wait at least another hour before I call this morning although I doubt DD#1 is sleeping!. (smile)

Our third exciting event happened this past Sunday. Our DS was elected Deacon at his church. I've no doubts that he will work hard to help members of the congregation where need is present. He is also chairman of his church's building fund & very active in youth diabetes volunteer work for his entire state.

I'm very proud of all of our kids. It's nice to be a parent of adult children & watch their lives develop. I'm feeling secure this morning knowing that when my days are over they are strong, capable, & self-sufficient to carry on.

We now have six grandchildren ranging from 19 years old to 1 day old!

Watering - 30 minutes or 30 mins [5mins day/6x week]

Thank you all for your input/responses. I have been following the Bible and it actually has produced a lawn that looks like this: [And yes I know the grass needed to be cut in these pics] However, point of frustration is two-fold I have over 35 roses in my garden [which must be watered daily if over 90 degrees] and if I use my irrigation system I cannot water them without also watering my lawn. And lately I've been seeing alot of clovers and weeds in my lawn [more than likely from over watering]. Therefore, my only solution is something I did not want to do: water the roses via hose by hand and properly water the lawn via the Bermuda Bible schedule. Sucky thing is that Atlanta is so damn hot to stand outside for an 1/2 hr daily to water these thirsty roses. As for those that read into my response(s) as having an attitude or insulting tone, I did not mean to express myself in this manner, more than likely the frustration with my lawn/roses coming out within the written word. Thank you one and all.

Most exciting day of composting ever!

Oh, yes, I remember exclaiming about my first hot compost at a social gathering. (There were people there who understood, but I'm sure there were also people that thought I was slightly nuts.) This past Saturday I spent some time helping my sister-in-law fill her newly-formed compost ring with shredded leaves and grass clippings her husband was mowing. Sunday noon, as we were touring the yard once more before I drove home, we discovered heat in the center of the pile--the first time for her. She was amazed and thrilled--and so was I! It never gets old!

Very cool! Did they do the flyover? Reminds me of the Tall Ships excitement during the Bicentennial.

Countertop D-Day: excited yet nervous (sneak peak)

The day has come and gone and installation finished late this afternoon. I wanted to check-in with the outcome. The guys were very nice -- which made it harder. I stayed out of the way mostly but could see problems. I'm happy with the marble itself but the craftsmanship is not there. Does anyone ever have a satisfactory install? I felt so sick after they left that I could not do a thorough inspection. I'll do it in the morning in natural light. One of the guys started applying epoxy as soon as they plopped the island down. I heeded advice and was nearby sitting on the stairs but not too close so they could do their job. They did not offer any info on what was going on. When they were done I asked about that spot (as no one offered any info about it) and asked if they chipped it during the install and he said, no, it was done during fabrication. So I have at least one chip, a problematic seam with a chip, an out of square island, and an out of square sink reveal. So weary from this DIY and so hoped this would go well. Very depressed right now. I'll start a new thread tomorrow with the details. I'll definitely need guidance.
