Cropping Photos....

Am using Windows Live Photo Galery...but can't crop the photos properly. They looked cropped, but don't stay that way. I cut off part of the pic & heads.

Have Windows 7 & IE.

I just experimented & cropped a pic... over on top right it has a close file button... click it and it says saved. Reopen same pic and is is still cropped.

You can copy all your files, photos, wallpaper and settings to you new computer by using Easy file transfer. All you need is a flash drive or external drive and do the following Click Start Click Control panel Click the small right facing arrow beside Control panel at the top in the address bar Click All Control panel items and the windows fills Click Getting started 4th down left side probably In the new window click Transfer files and settings from another computer and the screen shows a panel above In the bottom right corner of that panel click Open Windows Easy Transfer Click Next in the new window Click An external hard drive or flash drive at the bottom of the choices Click This is my new computer Click Yes in the new window and follow along It will then set the external drive up to accept all the stuff you need from the old machine and then prompt you to take the drive to the old computer to load the files.

Jim, thanks for posting, as usual you have a treasure trove of pictures for us to enjoy. They are wonderful photos and it is such a touching story of their lives together. It is interesting to me that the room structure is relatively simple (basic box and rectangle shaped rooms). The crown moldings are stream lined and not over the top, The decor and interest (for me) comes from the art on the walls (love that the art is lighted, wonderful for mood setting), the beautiful layering of their collections, and the great wall colors used in the rooms to evoke cozyness and yet is still very sophisticated. I could totally live in those rooms.

I also use Irfanview and love it. It took me forever to figure out how to crop. I was looking for something on the tool bar, when all I had to do was put my cursor in one spot and outline what I wanted to crop. Then I went to Edit and chose, crop selection or cut selection.

Windows Live Photo Gallery (along with a host of others including Picassa and Apple's iPhoto) do what's called "non destructive" editing. The original image is preserved and any editing taking place within the application. So you have your original, unedited photo if you need it. There is also a button in the upper of right of Windows Live Photo Gallery that says something like "revert to orginal" that may help you get back to where you started. Otherwise make a copy of your image file outside of Windows Live Photo Gallery and when you reopen Windows Live Photo Gallery, you'll have another image to work with.

Many of the current photo editors also crop to maintain the aspect ratio of the image. You may have noticed that the cropping tool wants to get, for example, narrower as you make the image shorter. There's usually a way to turn that off, but I don't know where that is in Windows Live Photo Gallery.

I've used Windows Live Photo Gallery and thought it worked pretty well for minor adjustments.

I often use an online version called picnik it is quick and easy.Nothing to install

Thank you all for your suggestions. I cropped 1 pic on Windows Live Photo Gallery, but then I couldn't get it to work again. It seems really easy but I'm not very good at anything on the computer. So guess I will keep trying or find someone that knows that program.

Sharon, I use Windows Live Photo Gallery daily and crop photos very often. I too have Win7. Let me know if I can be of assistant.

Try "photoscape" easy to crop and many other great features...best photo editing software, I've come across bar none!

I just can't seem to get that cropping thing. The Windows Live Photo Gallery looks very easy. Have tried acouple others, but don't like them. Will try to learn WLPG.

I lean towards MK's thinking. After cropping is finished are you saving the "new" project? If so, where?

The application is not permanently changing the foundation (original) picture. Rather, it is creating an modified version to be saved under a new file name.

Great to know that you got it! I use WLPG all the time. Not that I don't have better tools to use, I just prefer WLPG. It's more friendly to use.

Keep in mind that WLPG will automatically save the modified file under the same name. However, you can always revert to the original snapshot. If you don't want this to happen, copy the photo and place it in another folder before modifying it.

The only time that the file will save under a different name but will also retain the original file is when you resize the photo. It will add the new file size at the end of the name.
