Do you like a built in Mix Master cabinet
Comments (21)So, please correct me if I'm wrong--it sounds like it's possible to: --use a cabinet only 12" wide (what brand of lift?) --use the lift just to bring up the mixer, but then put it on the counter instead of leaving on the platform. Can you then lower the shelf and close the cabinet? Is the cord long enough to reach? --have a drawer on top and still use the shelf to lift mixer, and then put it on the counter (again, can you close the cab? have the cord reach?) sorry to be so nit picky but these are just burning questions for me :) TIA...See MoreAm I going to regret not boxing in my refrige with a panel?
Comments (61)Yes, mnerg; we understand! A "perfect" fit just might not be. I do at least: I would actually really like to see some efficiency curves on those fridges as a function of clearance, say 0.5", 1", 1.5", 2", 3"... Kas? I just bet this stuff gets published but how on earth would one find it? Alison: WOW is that pretty! Those glass front well-light cabinets are so riveting! No wonder you're thrilled. Have you looked at hardware on Lee Valley? Not sure if you're wanting something more unique but I've liked their stuff in the past; haven't looked recently. But it's a great company if you're not familiar with it. Droll David: thanks! You really lifted my day with your nice words. Because funnily enough, I have dreaded my postings imagining anyone who might read them to be rolling their eyes in annoyance. I've been chastened more than once about "overthinking things", which is simultaneously humiliating and annoying since after all, what's a forum like this for if not to obsess? If given permission to be obsessive is it possible to 'overthink'? (Evidently, yes). So anyway -- I completely appreciate your kind words as I do feel immensely self-conscious warbling on about this stuff. People are dying by the thousands on the other side of the globe and I'm spending my time wondering whether to box in my refrigerator; I'm even erasing and retyping it when I spell it wrong. And you too, mnerg: thanks for the seconded booster. As I said, though it's kinda pathetic, you'se-two's kind words really floated me through hours today. Methinks it's time to peruse the FKB since I still haven't got an answer. I agree with that droll David about some essence of intention being transmitted. But since all these kitchens actually are designed, why do some look more-so. And if non-formality is the aim, that's different from haphazard planning. BTW functionally, I should think those boxes would do a number on stagnating the air. And I wonder whether the presence of a mega-hood would assist in air circulation and therefore refrigerator efficiency?...See MoreFull size refrig. in pantry? Any pics or thoughts?
Comments (73)I like the way it's shaping up, and have to agree with RHome on her concerns. - If the rounded ends look good with your house, they do offer a nice seating option -- but then do them on both ends (which would really complicate your trash). If rounded ends aren't right for the house, don't do them at all. - I have a raised seating area and love it -- but I also have reasons for it that don't apply in your case. Mine separates the cooking area from the visiting area, protects the cooktop, and also acts as a buffet zone when we're entertaining. In your case, it would cut out useful prep space; in mine, it doesn't. Plus, my island is HUGE and needed to be broken up. Yours is very nicely proportioned and IMO, should be kept symmetrical since everything else is. - Because of the symmetry issue, I'd be inclined to agree with RHome about your sink(s), and maybe go with one like the lower soapstone one I posted. It'll also be cheaper and easier to fabricate. And a deep sink really CAN hide stuff! (That was one of the unexpected bonuses I discovered that I have really come to love.) - I've found that when the time comes to eat, most of the mess is around the range, since prep mess can be easily tidied as you go without messing with your timing. And a range mess will be partially hidden by your doorway. But since you're concerned about hiding a messy kitchen, and have an extra thick wall there anyway, what about putting back the pocket doors? We have a pair separating our dining area from the TV room, and in the right setting - which I think you have - they can provide the perfect sense of separation with openness. And you know, you can use 'regular' doors with a pocket application -- you aren't stuck with those flimsy ones you so often see....See MoreRefrig. boxed in with drywall, pics?
Comments (20)I did it here with at least an inch on each side because this was not a counter depth or build-in type of fridge that needed only 1/2" of breathing room on each side. You need to *check * the *manual to see how much space is needed on each side and top for ventilation. Some fridges need Several Inches and if you enclose it too tightly you will void the warranty. This fridge did get a cabinet above: This fridge has about 3" on each side: also a cabinet above. The larger gap can be covered with trim as long as the breathing room needed exists. Its pulled closer to one side of the opening to allow for better door swing. This is the back of the fridge enclosure. It sits in a column like structure:...See Morebradesp
