What exactly are you talking about? What produced these warnings? If this happened while you were on the Internet, it could be a rogue web site giving you bogus warnings of infections. However, to get help you need to provide more detail...

kudzu9, I have it in my heading, AVG. When it was through scanning it popped up with the message "warnings 88". When I tried to delete the list of "possible infections"..there was another notice that popped up and then I was not sure what to do.

Like I said, I'm not familiar with how to paste a "screen capture to clipboard" and then post on this forum.

If you have Malwarebytes up date program an run it, here are instructions should you need them:

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop. Click here
Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
 Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
 If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
 Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Full Scan", then click Scan.
 The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
 When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
 Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
 When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
 The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
 Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.
Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove,you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts,click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer,please do so immediately.

ZEP516 I'm in the process of following your directions but unfortunately I'm having DSL connection problems...it's the provider, not my computer.
I'll be lucky to get this posted, DSL goes on and off constantly so instead of posting the results of the scan and not being able to follow up with your suggestions, I'll post the results tomorrow evening after the provider has fixed the problem........thanks

Howdy. Two days ago I was surfing Google looking for a tool called a metal brake. Suddenly the screen lit up like a Christmas tree with all types of warnings and a lot of flashing going on. It had what looked like official AVG and Windows logos.

This particular window kept wanting me to click on a block for repair. When I clicked the block it took me to another window to download a particular file.

My system warned me maybe I shouldn't download that particular file, thank goodness. I was suspicious of the extraordinary window to begin with, but had never encountered such an immediate and rather intimidating window. I decided to heed Window's warning.

With some difficulty I finally got back to my normal boot-up screen from where I ran a full AVG scan, disk cleanup, and Advanced System Care, that reflected no problems.

I might mention that during one of my attempts to get rid of the window I was hit with a porn site window. It didn't occur to me at that time to get their ID to add it to blocking.

I don't know what you encountered. I've had a computer, or sorts, going on twenty years. This is my first encounter with such a blatant intrusion. Good luck, Gene

This is a P.S. to my just posted note. The particular site that generated the intrusion started with MAINSECURITY.INFO. There were a bunch of numbers and/or symbols after that. I captured most its window and have it on file. If it was allowed by THS I would send it along just for comparison. Good luck again. Gene

any time you get in one of those situations when those pop ups happen and take over your screen NEVER click on any part of it not even the red x because they have underlying code on those pages so that no matter where you click what you are actually activating is an install button. Instead do a control +alt+delete and bring up task manager and kill task on the open windows, or just shut down your pc. These type attacks are very prevalent and on many sites even legit sites because they are getting in though bad code on the website. Also if you had that kind of thing happen to you I highly suggest you run the Secunia tool and see if you are lacking the latest updates for some of your programs like flash, java, adobe etc that are known to have those kind of exploits in the wild.

I would also definitely update and run malwarebytes asap because it is very rare to get out of one of those with out something left behind.

Thank you for that link on fake antivirus warnings. DH keeps getting weird popups and he only knows to click the red x. Is the Secunia OSI free? This forum has been a lifesaver for me, I learn something every time I lurk.

yes the secunia tool is free there is the online version that link goes to and also a free one you can install on your pc there is a link to that one on the page that link goes to. You can use either type.
