unless you purchased a corporate version and/or you have a volume licence agreement, then legally its one copy, one PC.

I work on many of the computer tech help forums on the internet, have never ever heard any thing like that before.
we all work to help people fix their pc and aid them in finding solutions to their problems, there is nothing for sale so how can it be competition? We divide our time splitting it between many help forums, for free.

I have put links many times to other tech forums when referencing technical information for aid in clean up of infection or security issues, being sure to name and give credit to said forum, person, etc.

Well maybe the current/new management here are more liberal. In the past, perhaps three years ago, there was action taken to discourage the Lawn/Garden Tractor forum under the Garden Web from referring to another, now more popular, Tractor forum.

That may be the thinking behind the post about competition.

ah well that I could understand if a specific product was involved.

I am also on the pools and spa area here and there are always business and links provided between the pool owners and also some pool builders that frequent that site. Never saw any issues mentioned there either.

I know when specific products are involved which are for sale etc then in those cases I can see a competition element being involved.
However when dealing with free advice I don't see how that can come into play.

Maybe think of it this way. I would not post at The Weight Watcher's Forum, that I found the answer 'over here' on The Jenny Craig Forum.

On the Garden Forums here, often posts are deleted if they have a link over to Dick's Garden, and there are lots of other instances that are similar.

Yes, but some of them get through, for example, I was asking some questions a few months back on the Garden Web Fireplace forum and someone suggested I look at the hearth forum, I did, and use it all the time now, haven't looked at the fireplace forum since.

As the prior management was extremely territorial it is quite natural for a long-time member to be cautious in posting links to alternative forums even though iVillage seems to be more open minded. As far as product referrals and other informational sites, they have never been a concern here as long as they were not for commerccial purposes.

I do know of one forum which I can guarantee if you post a link to this forum your post will be deleted. And I can think of a couple others which filter competitive links on their site.
