Should be a word of caution to anyone contemplating upgrading to Vista. Check, check, check, to make sure that all your software, games, are Vista compatible and, if you have a laptop/notebook, make sure that drivers for your model are available for Vista before upgrading. I belong to a few computer help forums and you wojld be suprised at the number of people who do upgrades but dont check. The next thing you know, they are posting all their woes of not being able to find this driver or that and this or that wont work. Research is the key.

I'm happy with a combo of AVG/WinDefender/VistaFirewall. I probably tried all the free AntiVirus programs and some not so free mainly looking at boot time, cpu & memory use. It's really hard to beat the simplicity of the Vista firewall and switching between its default Public Place & Private/LAN settings with a simple check box ...makes fiddling with ports a thing of the past for me. And I dont have a single error in event viewer!

You have to dedicate some time to playing with the machine just to find where things are. My new HP computer has its own Help Center with a "What's New in Vista?" guide.

I don't understand your comment about another computer help forum being the competition??? I work on many of the computer tech help forums on the internet, have never ever heard any thing like that before. we all work to help people fix their pc and aid them in finding solutions to their problems, there is nothing for sale so how can it be competition? We divide our time splitting it between many help forums, for free. I have put links many times to other tech forums when referencing technical information for aid in clean up of infection or security issues, being sure to name and give credit to said forum, person, etc. ?????
