Prayers going out for your nephew and his family! After seeing the result of custody sharing with my grandson and his parents, I pray that they can resolve the problems that are being the cause of the custody battle.

Thanks for your kind words and thoughts. Today at the CAT scan no one had told Jack or my sister that there would be intravenous dye injected before doing the scan so it was rather traumatic for the poor guy (and his mom).

daylily- yes it is so so hard and the problems are very stressful for everyone, especially Jack.

DD#2 had a cat scan with dye and she was scared to death of needles. It is very traumatic!

I've had so little time at the computer lately, this is my first chance to post to this thread. I'm pulling for the little guy, and am thinking positive thoughts. He's going to be just fine, especially with such a good family surrounding him.

When Dh was in college, (we won't go into how long ago that was, lol) he had to undergo tests in which they injected dye in between his toes. In his case, they were testing his lymph nodes, and apparently that was the only place they could find a lymph node close enough to the surface. It not only made his feet turn blue, but his whole body turned green. He looked like an alien for a few weeks. The med students were so excited about him, he felt like a super star. Just when this happened, he was sitting in class, and a young woman sitting next to him kept looking at him out of the corner of her eye. He turned to her and asked, "Is it my imagination, or am I turning green?" DH has just quirky enough of a sense of humor that I think he actually enjoyed being green. Hopefully, however, this kind of thing won't happen to your nephew, but if it does, maybe he can have fun with it, too.

He had his appt today with the ear-nose-throat doctor who has said"well, it has to come out". My sister said he avoided the c-word the whole time, because Jack was there.He had the report from the CAT scan but not the actual scan (??) so he is going to get back to DS when he has that. He was pleased to see the blood work was normal, but surgery should be in the next month or so. No placating, no "don't worry mom, this is nothing.." which would have been nice. So we will know more once the surgery happens, just waiting to confirm a date.

Janet, that means he had the radiologist's written report of his findings but not the actual pictures. I recently had a CAT scan of my head and neck for something that turned out to be nothing much. I looked at the CAT scan with my ENT and it was totally fascinating, looking at my innards.

I'm guessing that the docs won't know what's going on until they have a chance to examine the actual tumor (or whatever it is). I know you all are holding your breath, and it sounds like you will have to continue holding it until after the surgery. Only my guess.

I will certainly continue to hold Jack in my thoughts (I have a grand-nephew, age 12, named Jack). Positive thoughts for the best possible outcome.

I am sending my prayers that the results of his test are reassurring and that it is benign if the mass is in the wrong place.

Oh, yes Janet ...(((((Jack)))) will stay in my thoughts and prayers along with you and your sis. Hugs. I just hate this! Month go fast!

I'm just seeing this now, Janet, I'm hoping very hard that everything goes smoothly and Jack will be fine.

My sister heard from the dr office yesterday - surgery is scheduled for Oct 21. He will have some pre-op stuff done the day before and then has to be at the hostpital for 6:30 am on the 21st. I am a little scared. Thanks for good thoughts and prayer.

I hope the hospital is really good at helping kids to relax. It can be such a scary experience. The nurses will all be moms and they will take good care of him.

Since the mass has to come out on my birthday, I will be praying for Chance all day on that day. I survived thyroid cancer when it was found in my throat in 1999. It was scary going in to the surgery and finding out that I had cancer but was told that they had removed the entire mass along with all of my thyroid gland. It had not spread but was getting ready to exit the gland when they operated. I pray that he will recover with no side effects of the surgery.

Janet , you know I will be thinking of him, your sister and you. My feeling is the doctor would be having a serious chat with your sister and perhaps even have him moved to Sick Kids if he thought it was really, really bad.

Keep good thoughts , we are all pulling for Jack.

Thanks Sally - I am getting very nervous.

The doctor says surgery will be about 3 hrs - starting at 7:45 am. I am taking at least part of the day off to be at the hospital with my sister, and then will play it by ear after surgery.

Ooh Janet, I know how long the time will seem until he goes in on the 21st. Take some deep breaths and every time you start to feel nervous or worried, tell yourself out loud that everything will be fine.

Hi all - I just popped home from the hospital. Jack's surgery was a bit quicker than the dr thought. He was in surgery for about an hour, recovery and now in a room. He is not too happy about the whole thing, and just wait til he realizes they shaved part of his head. The dr indicated that the surgery would be quick or very long- so I guess it was quick. Not sure that means anything really. Pathology results will take a couple of weeks (upto 3) to get back. Jack may even get out later today but since he is going to his dad's (not his mom's place) I kind of hope they keep him overnight. (Dad's judgement is not always the best) Thanks for the good thoughts so far. Now I guess we wait and see for a while more.

I will keep praying for Jack that the report will benign . His recovery is already started since the surgery was so quick.

Linda and Annie - hadn't thought of that. That makes me feel better. He is actually gone home now - so he should get some better rest. Hospitals are no places for sick people! LOL. He has a follow up appt tomorrow with the doctor who did the surgery.

I'm glad to see that his surgery went quickly. I'd think that's much better all the way around. Less time under anesthesia is always good. That's a long time to have to wait for the pathology results, though. I'll keep Jack in my thoughts a prayers, along with his mom and you.
