How do you clean your Toto Sanigloss Toilet?

Hello. I posted awhile back about my 14" rough-in problem. I ended up going with a Toto Carlyle with the unifit adapter and I love it! It came with the sanigloss surface. I am wondering how you clean that. Do you just use regular toilet bowl cleaner? Can you use one of those disposable Clorox brushes or will that harm it? The instructions say to use a regular toilet brush and diluted neutral detergent - but I have been getting away from the regular brushes as they are gross and I don't want the kids getting into them. And what would be a neutral detergent? Any suggestions? Thanks!

Clorox will not harm sanigloss. Any disposable brush that won't scratch the finish will be fine. I usually use Clorox and leave it there for at least 10 minutes in all the toilets, put on rubber gloves and use either wads of paper towels or inexpensive sponges. They allow you to get under the rim and everywhere else and the gloves prevent you from getting wet.

If you have horrible water that leaves bad stains and Clorox won't work, use CLR.

But if you are just cleaning to disinfect pour in a little clorox and swish it with a disposable brush.

I have an all-marble bathroom, so I do not allow bleach anywhere near the place. In fact, I threw out all the bleach in the house before the re-model in anticipation. Also, I did not want any sort of toilet brush in sight or in the new vanity. So I have been using the Clorox toilet wand with disposable heads. It is a pricey solution, since I clean the toilet twice a week, but it keeps bleach out of the bathroom, cleans well, and is safe for the new Toto.

Lysol TB cleaner and a TB brush (we have a Soiree w/sanagloss). I'm pretty sure I had asked them at Toto about using that for cleaning when I had called with some other questions way back.

Hi three_acres - I really like the looks of the Guinevere, but have been leaning toward a 1.6 gallon flush vs. the 1.28 from what I've read here. I'm in the metro DC area, and knowledgeable sales folks here say the Gmax is better than the newer Cyclone, but who really knows??!! Still haven't made a final decision, all I know for sure is that I want an elongated, skirted toilet from Toto, and not something too contemporary looking, as our house is pretty traditional. I need to find a Lloyd so I can see it in person, but it was one of the finalists when I was checking out Toto's website. And then I also saw that kateskouros got these, and I like her style. I likely will make purchases locally, with a 25% discount or so. But I've been price shopping online just to check (and maybe with a call you can get better pricing?) - but the irawoods.com website looks pretty good -- large selection and good pricing. (I have no affiliation, just found them through google and other sources.) I agree, I like the Sanagloss feature, but a lot of folks on Gardenweb have said they can't tell a huge difference (but maybe I've missed some posts on this?) -- let me know what you hear. We are hoping to start construction soon. Good luck with your project, hope it goes well! I think the look of the Lloyd will be perfect for your reno :-)

I have the Toto Washlet 300. We clean it with soap and water. One of the very nice features of the Washlet is by pulling two tabs the whole toilet seat assembly simply pulls out. I have had this for about 6 years and it hasn't deteriorated at all. I do not want to use any harsh chemicals on it as I would expect to see the plastic deteriorate. As to the use of the appliance, I love it;) I shave my head and find that a wash and dry on the other end is just fine!

Actually, the chemical composition of wood is strongly anti-bacterial. I do realize that the wood has a finish on it. That finish should not be more prone to bacteria than the finish on other types of seats. I have a big slab of Teflon 3/4 thick that was donated to me. My idea was that it would make a wonderful kitchen cutting board. Then I saw test results that showed that wooden boards had much lower bacteria counts that any other type of cutting board. Except for the possibility of splinters, I see no problem with wooden seats. Our outhouses, which we used until the mid-50's, had unfinished wood seats. We scrubbed them once a week with (heated on a woodstove) boiling water. Here is a link that might be useful: Look, listen.

I have researched and researched this and I cannot get a clear answer anywhere! It does say in the owner manual of my Toto toilets not to use bleach so I will not use bleach. But there is a Lysol with hydrogen peroxide and I’m wondering if I can use that on my Toto toilet?

I to throughout the bleach because the Housekeeper ruins things with it and yes our house is totally remodeled and it specifically says don’t use bleach on Toto toilets!

I have a Toto toilet with marble floors and use a special non-acidic toilet bowl cleaner that is safe for Toto toilet finish as well as a non-abrasive siicone toilet brush. My toilet always looks clean

Like posted by others, I don't keep any cleaning products in my house which aren't safe for my finishes because I assume someone will use them improperly.

@grubereyf - It is Majestic Stone Care Product and it was recommended by Dragonfly along with their all surface cleaner which I also use
