How do you clean oiled finished wood floors?
Comments (1)I used to just damp mop with Murphy's Oil. Use about half as much Murphy's oil as the directions call for and then re-oil. I found that waxing did make the floor easier to keep clean and lengthen times between oilings....See MoreToilet Seat problems...what kind do you have?
Comments (11)Sometimes men just don't "get it" do they Patti? LOL DH is forever doing things that bug me and he will say,"Well, that looks OK!" Like the bright pumpkin orange paint on the walls in his bedroom! I let him get away with that only because nobody ever goes in there but me or him.I wake up every morning to that orange "glow",(his room adjoins mine) made even worse by the morning sun coming in the window because he has never put his blind back up since the room was painted about 6 months ago. There is a big door opening between his room and mine so I get the full effect of the "glow" every morning.I almost have to wear sunshades.LOL We are shopping next week for a folding door for that opening! I have the oak toilet seats that we bought at Lowes,I think, about 7 years ago.The one in my bathroom has a slight crack and has had for a couple of years but it isn't pinching yet.LOL We have replaced the bolts that hold it onto the commode on both of them within the last 6 months but so far that's all. They have the brass hinges but I hate them because the finish has worn off and they look really cruddy.I won't replace them until I have to though. Those things are expensive. Maybe you should have kept the white one and did something like this to make it a little more "stylish".LOL Here is a link that might be useful: Toilet seats...See MoreHow do you clean your painted cabinetry? esp the wood hood?
Comments (4)If you are getting a grease buildup on the hood, the first thing to do is to assess the actual ventilation. Your ductwork may be blocked, or too small, or the fan may not have enough CFM's, or even just your filter needs cleaning. Good quality ventilation doesn't really allow much grease to escape the capture area. Never use any type of oil soap or anything with ammonia on your cabinets. It can weaken the finish, and if you ever need to re-paint, you'll need to prime with a specialty primer rather than just recoating with the existing paint. The best thing to use on cabinets is a wrung out microfiber cloth with a bit of Dawn mixed into the water that you wetted it with. That will grab any grease and dirt. But don't forget to rinse....See MoreHow do you clean your hardwood kitchen floors? (X-posted on cleaning)
Comments (14)rebeccamomof123 your floors are lovely. If you like the way your floors look, I wouldn't have them refinished now. You know now that when the time comes you'll have to completely refinish them, but there's no reason you have to rush into it since they obviously are in good shape. I'd stop using the steam mop and Murphy's and start using the damp microfiber mop. We had oak floors refinished in our last house and I used Bona and the occasional steam mop. After 6 years, the satin poly was starting to wear thin in a few spots. Our new hardwood floors are waiting to be installed right now and I don't plan to ever use the steam mop on them!...See Moreandee_gw
