Kohler Brushed Chrome or Brushed Nickel

Okay, lurking on GW has finally convinced me it's okay to mix finishes! Hardware throughout house will be ORB and will go with ORB in Master Bath, Powder, etc...

But, I want my kids bathrooms to have a bit more modern look so should I go with the Brushed Chrome finish or Vibrant Brushed Nickel finish with Kohler?? It will be the Forte faucet and shower/tub trim. Something about the brushed nickel looks like it has strange undertones and I worry about coordinating lights.

What's your opinion or do you have either of these finishes in your house?

I used the Kohler Forte in brushed nickel for my daughters' bathroom, it looks very nice. I don't notice any strange undertones and it is very easy to keep clean and smudge free. I just purchased a Kohler Margaux faucet in brushed nickel for our powder room remodel, but have not yet installed it. Its beautiful in the box though!

I used brushed nickel in our kitchen and there is a very faint greenish/yellow tinge. That said - I didn't notice it until I compared in to a brushed chrome fixture.

I love chrome and went with Kohler in my shower and Hansgrohe for the sinks. I will tell you that the chrome in the shower wipes clean with no spotting and the Hansgrohe does not wipe clean as easily. For my second bathroom I'm doing Hansgrohe in the shower (I love the valve that they have...it's a 3-in-one and is already installed) and will have to deal with any cleaning issues. I'm not sure which faucet I will go with for that sink. I think that no matter what the finish, or the manufacturer...they all clean up (and last) differently. Having said all this...I love the look of the choices that I made for my MB.

I have chrome fixtures in my 35+ year old bathroom. Still in perfect condition. I am in the planning stage of a bathroom remodel. I have brushed nickel hardware throughout my house, kitchen knobs, light fixtures, door knobs. So I was thinking of doing the same for the bathroom. Keeping everything matchy-matchy. However, the more I go to showrooms the more I see bathroom fixtures displayed in chrome. Now, I'm trying to decide between brushed nickel and chrome finishes for my faucets and fixtures, I like the shiny look of Chrome. But, notice brushed nickel hides fingerprints and water spots on my kitchen faucet. Something to consider. The problems with satin and brushed nickel however come in trying to match one “version” of satin nickel to another. Different manufacturers have different standards and processes for creating this finish and can make it difficult to create a uniformed look.

So how well do the various insinkerator faucet finishes match Kohler Brushed Chrome and Brushed Nickel? I've seen the vendor's PDF, but obviously would rather hear from the troops and (hopefully) see pictures. Buehl has posted some good pictures for the brushed nickel finishes w/ SS sinks, but no hot-water faucets. :( Desparately trying to avoid chrome, and cabinet hardware will be changed to whatever is needed. Have you looked at a Kohler Brushed Nickel soap dispenser? When you refer to the InSinkerator, are you talking about an Garbage Disposal or Instant Hot Water faucet? I have Kohler Vibrant Brushed Nickel Vinnata (K-690) & Fairfax faucets and Kohler Vibrant Brushed Nickel soap dispensers. My Kohler Disposal Flange is Brushed Stainless and Kohler DuoStrainers are Vibrant Stainless. My InSinkerator airswitch is Satin Nickel (looks just like the Kohler Vibrant Brushed Nickel). OK....I just looked up your faucet and, according to the Kohler site, it only comes in Polished Chrome & Vibrant Stainless, not Vibrant Brushed Nickel. The "matching" soap dispenser, the "Soap/lotion dispenser with Contemporary design" (K-1995), also comes in those finishes (among others). InSinkerator Hot/Cold dispensers appear to come in Chrome, Brushed Chrome, and Polished Nickel (among others). If you stay w/the Simplice, I think I would go with the Polished Chrome faucet & soap dispenser and Chrome Hot/Cold dispenser. Does this help?

Glitterbug, "easy to keep clean and smudge free" sounds good for the kids bath! What finish light did you put with it? The undertones appear online so I wasn't sure if it was just the computer.

The light fixture and towel bars are brushed nickel from Pottery Barn. I also use soft white light bulbs in my home, I prefer the light from them as opposed to 'reveal', which made colors look strange IMO. Just a preference though, I know many who love other light spectrum tones.

i saw very little brushed chrome when i was looking at fixtures... i remember thinking that the brushed chrome had 'odd undertones', if you will...faintly icy blue. i noticed brushed nickel finishes differed from manufacturer to manufacturer, and that i liked some more than others... overall tho, there is alot more brushed nickel available to choose from if you want to 'match' lighting and accessories, etc...

For the record . . .

I have a satin nickel faucet from Kohler (Hampton) for the bathroom sink. The finish can scratch, unlike chrome. That's great if you like "patina"!
