Jean you should always be concerned in cases like this, you need to know you can retain your own privacy. Superantispyware, linked below will possibly find any if there. Not sure how powerful Supantispyware is in regard to keyloggers but it is a good starting point.

Does this individual live anywhere close to you? I ask in case you have a wireless network not properly secured and he has found his way in that way.

You can visit Gibsons Research, scroll down to 'Shields up' and run a test to see how secure your computer is. This is a free service.

has he ever sent you an email or message in instant message that had anything attached for you to open and view, picture, document, game, anything at all? If so then yes he could have done it with out touching your pc. They can be attached to certain file types and hidden with in the file then when you open the file it installs on your computer.

How do you know he lives no where near you? simply because he said so? Never just believe things people tell you as honest, unfortunately many are not honest and it could be he lives in the same community.

there are even programs now that can be sent to you in an innocent looking file that you open, then it turns on the webcam you have on your pc and is sending the life feed of you and everything the webcam can see to the person that sent the file. Many laptops these days are built with webcam built in to them.

As to getting rid of a keylogger it would depend on just how good a one it was, they are meant to hide so that they are not detected, some antispyware programs can find some but no guarantee. Superantispyware is about the best free one.
If you do not have a good firewall on your pc get one and learn how to use it so if there is something on your pc trying to send out info the firewall will block it.
Never ever accept attachments period.
And definitely if you are using a wireless network have it checked to make sure it is set up securely, if not any one driving by can jump on your network.

If you do not trust this person end contact and stop going to the websites he is going to. Change YOUR habits!

What antivirus program is on your pc and is it active and turned on and getting updates daily? Are you running full scans at least once a week?

Thank you so much for your information. I am running SuperAntispyware now as we speak...and I have zone alarm and AVG installed and I keep them up to date.
I did exchange files with this man in a music room on Paltalk...he sent me a few Karoke songs and I sent him a few songs.
I'm quite sure he lives about 3 hours away, but that is just from info he gave me.
I got concerned because e was able to turn on my cam when we were chatting......I asked how he did that..he said I have my ways.
should I have a professional do something on my computer....??
Is this person able to see everything I type , and if so...
will he be able to read this message and know I am on to him??
I'm pretty concerned,......

Back again..
the AntiSpyware detected nothing.....shields Up said I am invisible....and I ran "Whats running on your computer" ...and it showed no dangerous programs.
Could be I am overreacting......just feel weird about him seemingly following me around the places I like to go such as the music rooms.
The cam thing might have been done by me by mistake....not even sure about that right now.
I will be more careful in the future about accepting music files..
Thanks for your good advice....

Jean the link below is a bit daunting. However there are good links there and anything you do not understand can be Googled to find an easier to read definition. Plus it is an interesting read.

You can protect yourself another way for temporary use. Download either Ubuntu or SimplyMEPIS. Get the version that runs from a CD. Then you can restart your computer at any time with this CD bypassing Windows and the keylogger if it is there. You can go online but none of your favourites will be there for you, it will need to to type in and address but it offers an option.

YOU NEED TO BE VERY CAREFUL if he is able to turn on your cam he most definitely has some serious programs installed on your pc and he can be watching you every moment he can be watching you now he can be watching you any where you have that computer cam at. I would disconnect the cam if it is a stand alone, If it is built in I would be disabling it immediately. This is a known issue and many people fall for taking a file in a chat room etc which contains this program then the person on the other end captures all the video and ends up selling it or posting it on porn sites or voyeur sites. This is very serious. You need to have a professional check out your pc. Personally I would not trust it again till it was wiped clean and reformatted, and checked deeply for rootkits too.
I would inform who ever runs the room that this has happened, I would contact cyberangels and give them all the info too. This preson is a predator and is likely doing this to many many people and possibly children too.
Do not take this lightly, this is stuff that the fbi should be looking into.

my guess is if he has a program that is able to turn on your cam he has full control of your pc, including any passwords and any banking info.
This person is NOT to be trusted in any way. He could show up at your door at any time and you would have no idea who he is, he could talk to you at the grocery store and you would have no idea who he is, I used to run a major chat room for MSN we had to deal with just these kinds of issues, it was amazing the things these people knew.

Please take this serious, anytime someone can control anything on your pc it means they have full control over it!

Also get rid of any of the files he sent you. Go into control panel , add remove software and look for anything suspicious, any programs named you do not know what they are you write down the info and do google searches to look them up.

Never give out your ip address to anyone! Pal talk is a known hot bed for that kind of predator so expect no one to be telling the truth. Never ever take files from anyone.

Thank you all so much for the info. I have disconnected my cam .and I will have a professional who knows everything about all this stuff.....fix my computer and then I will never accept another file from anyone,
I never knew such things existed.....but now I do.
What a scarey world we live in......not even safe in the comfort of your own den.
I thank you for your help.....you may have saved me from something far worse.
Thank you .

You are very welcome I am glad you came here and asked! Yes you are correct you just never know anymore and that is scary but what is even more scary is this happens every day to children too and they are way too naive to think something bad can happen to them just by accepting a file.
