Dealing with the prospect of losing both my grandmothers

I'm not asking for advice, I just want to get this off my chest.

I consider myself very lucky because I managed to meet 4 of my great grandparents before they died, and that I have got to know all my grandparents as an adult. I lost one grandfather 4 years ago and a great aunt this year, and the rest of the older generation are not getting any younger.

Now both my grandmothers are unwell and it scares me that they could go within a short time of each other. Both have heart problems. One broke her hip this summer, then got an infection in the hip and nearly bled to death from a stomach ulcer she got from the pain medicine she got when she was fighting the infection. She is still in the hospital, more than a month later, but is allowed to go home on weekends. We also worry about her because she is depressed.

The other one has just been diagnosed with myeloma, and on top of that she had a minor stroke just as she was beginning her first round of chemotherapy. This particular grandmother has never seemed old to me - more like a 17 year old with wrinkles, but lately she has been talking about being old, and that scares me because it means she is beginning to think of herself as such. She is 83, is one of my best friends, and I know I should be prepared to lose her, but it would be like preparing for the loss of a limb.
