Help me save my Grandmother's Gardenia

sina_grow

I have a gardenia that was my Grandmother's. It was doing fine through the summer---beautiful green leaves, blooms, etc.---- until I brought it in the house!!

EVERY single leaf has dried and fallen off --- I just have the trunk (~1/2" diameter) and a few sorted branches remain. It remains in a pot and I've kept it watered hoping new growth would sprout. Am I hoping for the impossible? If so, can I cut the stem and try to propagate it? It would break my heart to lose this particular plant. PLEASE ---- any suggestions would be so appreciated!!! Thank you all.
