TV Console- how high to put the tv?? Help

We are building a new home and we need to tell the electrician how high to put the cable and plug for the TV that we want to hang in the family room.

The family room is 21'5 x 19'6 with over 20 foot ceilings (so very high)

The console table we bought is 33 inches high... we would like to hang the tv but want to make sure its not too high where you have to constantly look up. (and i would like to have it high enough to put pictures on top??) but again i dont want it too high?

Can you give your suggestion? How much higher up should we go from the height of the console? If you have pics please share them...

We are looking at a 55 inch tv.... the console table is 67 inches long (and 33 1/2"h)

The rule of thumb that I use is that the bottom edge of the display (the actual screen, not the surrounding frame) is at the eye-level of your primary viewing position.

So, if you will primarily be viewing from a set of recliners, sit in them (upright ... don't recline) and have someone measure to the height of your eyes. Make that height the bottom of the display image ... a few inches up or down won't be noticeable, though.

I have a 66" console for a 60" tv. I'd prefer something a little wider b/c the speakers are mounted on the wall too. But we already owned this console so its staying for now. Plus we needed the floor space for extra seating and have chairs flanking the tv ( a popular theme!) I love the look of long low consoles . I willed ably replace this one soon with something in the 72-80" range. If you want to display items, I'd go for the 80" but a lower height. Where are your speakers going to go? your width is fine. The height is a little on the high, making your viewing angle less than ideal.

there are web sites that give you comfortable viewing heights for wall-mounted flat screens. i am not convinced from the photo that your unit is too high. we recently purchased a new console that's higher than the old one, cutting down the empty wall space a little. looks better. i agree with the color choices others have given.

If it were me, I'd mount the tv on the wall, and move the shelf above the tv and make it smaller so your tv is not surrounded by a sea of wall. Unless you have a bunch of art you want to put in there. That would give me some storage space above the tv or art or books or audio video stuff. Do you have any nice looking dishes or serving pieces that you rarely use? They might look nice in the storage shelves. Books too, or family photos in nice frames. Nowdays you can go to almost any Goodwill and pick up nice display items if you're into that. I try to use stuff I already have instead of buying things, but you can often pick up interesting little antique arty things here and there if that's what you want. I have always used open storage for books myself, but I know that is old school.

I may get another mirror table top but I still need the big mirror for my hair and things. a lil mirror will not do just for my makeup etc. I always said the writting desk was going to be use as vanity and act as a area you can use for your laptop. I agree with the console table. I am thinking about doing like a rectangular gold dish and a orchid plant. I wanted him to place the TV at that height just in case I was going to add some type of tall vase or pillars candles.
