No, it will look fine. I wouldn't want bigger. I have a
wall unit, but no space on either side, it ends just at
the end of our 52" tv. However, it is lower, only 24"
high.

Thanks for your reply. Actually, I wanted it a bit lower, but the furniture style units all seem to be that high. I also thought since the other wall has my fireplace, and bookcases that are very high, that maybe a higher tv console would look more balanced w/the fireplace wall than something low. I certainly hope I like what I ordered. When I discussed w/a decorator she thought longer would be better as I could put vases or whatever on either side of the tv. I want to agree w/her, but who wants vases or whatever to distract from what you are watching on the tube?

I think you will be fine.

I have a 42in tv on cabinet about 58 in. wide cabinet. My cabinet is on the taller side.

I was afraid of going too low...I was used to my previous height of 30in., this is about 35-36 inches high.

See now I am really second guessing my decision on the console. I am a little worried that I will still have a lot of empty wall space by going w/the smaller console.
But the next size up from the 60 inch was 80 which I thought would be too big. 70 would have been best. There would have been 10 inches on each side for "something".

I do plan on putting something in the wall space on either side of the console - either large pictures/mirrors/artwork. The other problem is that the ceiling is high (vaulted) on 7 feet of that wall and only 9 feet on the other end of it.

Our TV has 13 inches on either side, which leaves room for our small surround-sound speakers and a piece of art work. Looks fine to us. I think you may find your wall looks too empty. With a TV measuring 50" I think the 80" console would be fine.

What about chairs? In full disclosure I love chairs :)

My wall is only 10 feet long before we hit the doorway.

I could easily add a single chair to the one side. The other side has a chair and hopefully a floor lamp angled off to the side of the console.

I would waaaaay rather fill the extra space with a little sitting area - chair, little table, floor lamp, artwork,- than with more TV console.

We got a 60" wide console for our "on order" 55" TV. Loved the 82" version (of the console, not the TV, thought THAT would be cool! LOL), but a console that wide wouldn't fit, not with DH's humongous free-standing ribbon speakers flanking it. So, it was 60" by default!

I have a 66" console for a 60" tv. I'd prefer something a little wider b/c the speakers are mounted on the wall too. But we already
owned this console so its staying for now. Plus we needed the floor space for extra seating and have chairs flanking the tv ( a popular theme!) I love the look of long low consoles . I willed ably replace this one soon with something in the 72-80" range. If you want to display items, I'd go for the 80" but a lower height. Where are your speakers going to go? your width is fine. The height is a little on the high, making your viewing angle less than ideal.

pps7 - Thanks for the picture of your room - it looks very nice! I will have the surround speakers in the ceiling, and the other components in the actual cabinet. Here's a link to the cabinet I purchased (not yet delivered). I will not be mounting my tv to the wall, just sitting it on the cabinet. Since the tv will be quite a few feet back from my other chairs and couch - I'm not sure that putting chairs on either side of mine would work, they may look silly just floating on the wall space..I should have made my room a few feet smaller for a cozyer feel
