TV console, glass cabinet design help :)

I already have a thread going about the general furniture layout of my living room and I didn't want to hijack it (it's here: https://www.houzz.com/discussions/living-room-design-help-dsvw-vd~5633431 ) but I'm having some design trouble with the cabinets on either side of our tv. Sorry about the wires! Hiding them are on the to-do list haha

I plan on putting storage underneath the tv itself (probably an upholstered bench or ottomans) and the intake vent will be painted to match the baseboards- this room was a full renovation, that's the last of the loose ends there.

I'm stuck on what to put inside the glass cabinets; the top shelves have lights if I want to use them, we have some devices on the lower left shelf, and the far outside are pullout drawers for movie storage.

You could add books, pottery, a decorative box, a large seashell...

If it were me, I'd mount the tv on the wall, and move the shelf above the tv and make it smaller so your tv is not surrounded by a sea of wall. Unless you have a bunch of art you want to put in there. That would give me some storage space above the tv or art or books or audio video stuff.

Do you have any nice looking dishes or serving pieces that you rarely use? They might look nice in the storage shelves. Books too, or family photos in nice frames. Nowdays you can go to almost any Goodwill and pick up nice display items if you're into that. I try to use stuff I already have instead of buying things, but you can often pick up interesting little antique arty things here and there if that's what you want. I have always used open storage for books myself, but I know that is old school.

In my honest opinion.. I would still go for a new console despite not wanting to. But in the end it only matters what you want yourself. If you really don't want to get a new one I simply wouldn't care and not get a new one! Visually though as I said before.. a new one is absolutely needed.

Be careful with shiny paint in this space. You want the walls to recede and make the room feel more spacious. I can imagine using the pearl in a powder room or in a tray ceiling for a dining room. (The pros may be able to explain the idea better than I can.)

Because it is such a large area and the remainder of the room is very neutral I would suggest a gallery wall with perhaps one or two rows of art to the right of the TV, a row or two above the TV and then more art on the left, going down as far as is aesthetically pleasing. You can google TV with gallery wall to see what this might look like. Balance this with art on other walls in the room.
