I have just finished with an extended warranty service on a DCS stove. The igniter went out and GE couldn't find anyone in my area (CHICAGO!) to service the stove. I had to go back and forth with GE and they finally agreed after about ten phone calls to let me find my own repair person. There is only one repair company in all of Chicago and one in Wisconsin. They have very strick boundaries for where they go to repair. Then to add to the trauma, GE Warranty Service told me they had a limit to the repair costs. Well the repairs came to $100 more than their limit. Again a series of calls and they GE have agreed to reimbuse me. I am glad I had the warranty, but you need to make sure what it will and won't repair! Also if you have service people in your area. Will SZ like DCS restrict who they send parts to so that every repair person in town can't get the parts? My repair guy told me of a case where someone bought a cheaper $300 dishwasher and also bought the warranty. The warranty had a limit of $20 a year in repairs and was totally worthless. Because SZ is pricier, make sure that you won't have a limit because the repairs costs too much! Remeber service people charge you travel time if you're not located near one. I bought my stove thru EXPO and was going to make them be responsible had GE Warranty Service not taken care of everything. Please investigate the extended warranty fully before handing over your money. Especially since a lot of call centers are no longer in the USA and you may be dealing with foreigners which adds to the frustration. I was able to survive without a broiler ignitor for weeks. Can you survive without a compressor for weeks? Good Luck.

I would get a warranty on everything expensive that you buy. I have made 5 major purchases this year, and bought the warranty on only 3 of them. I have used the warranty twice on LG products. One is a french door fridge/freezer which croaked within about 2 weeks. It's a LFX2590FU. The ice maker made about 6 batches of ice and hasn't worked since. I've had 3 different repairmen here, and it still does not work. They have spent alot of time replacing parts that are not broken. Another repairman is supposed to have came out last Friday. No show. I bought this fridege almost 2 years ago and no ice maker yet. My second problem is a LG washer. It's a WM2487HRMA. The spin sense cycle does not work, and the tub clean cycle didn't work, but they did fix that. Spin sense cycle is still broken, but I'm tired of dealing with repairmen. I also bought 2 LCD TV's. One is a Mitsubishi 46", which the Circuit City dude talked me into buying. I was going for a Sony. I've only had it since Feb of this year and the screen has been replaced twice. It keeps getting lines down the side. I did not buy the extended on this, so after next Feb. I'm screwed. Second TV was a plasma Panasonic. No warranty, but no probs yet...knocking on wood. There are several options for warranties besides what they sell at the stores. SquareTrade warranty is one that is ALOT cheaper than the store warranties, and seem to be every bit as good. The LG repair people are just a joke to work with. When you call their customer service, they treat you like it's your fault that your appliance isn't working. They make you go through all these different tests on the washer or fridge that I have already done. And why should I be expected to troubleshoot my appliances? That's what the repair people are supposed to do right? They make me do the tests all again before they will send someone out. Then the people they've sent out don't seem to have a clue on what to do. I'm wondering if there is a lemon law on these things? They've sent 3 repair people for the same problem and it is not fixed. It is so frustrating to spend that much money on what is supposed to be top of the line appliances and then they give you nothing but problems. Sorry for the book. Stay away from ALL LG products!!!

Do not buy 3rd party warranties. CPS has no technicians, but rather will find some hack in your area to try and fix your appliances. An excerpt from a poster on the Complaints Board: Terrible company to deal with. My ice maker has been broken for 9 months now. They have sent a repair technician out to fix it over 5 times changing several parts on it only to be a temporary fix. They now refuse to come back out because they say the unit is unrepairable. Before CPS can replace the unit under lemon law, they had to get a second opinion so they sent out a different company who have come out 3 times and they too say that the unit is unrapairable. I'm still waiting to hear from CPS's supervisors, David and Eli! I have a 5 year warranty on a $3, 500 refrigerator and it has been a complete nightmare to deal with CPS and I still have a broken ice box! I would NOT recommend getting warranty with this company! Yes! My four-year-old induction range is acting up. The largest (and most used) hob will only work sporadically. Started this about about a week after I had to put in a new control board in the French door fridge for the tune of about $700. Both are Samsung. I didn't buy the extended warranty. Appliance repairman said the landfill is full of almost-new appliances; something like 1 in 4 appliances there are less than 5 years old. Now I understand that some stores (Sears here in Canada) offer extended warranty plans that if at the end of the term you don't use it, will credit it back to you! After this experience with almost-new appliances, I wouldn't buy another without it.
