Cast Iron or Porcelain cooktop grates??
Comments (1)Most of the cast iron grates has a dull porcelain coating. Some have a shiny porcelain finish. I think either is easier to clean than a steel porcelain grate. Continuous grates allow you to slide a pan over or part ways off the burner...See MoreBS RNB Cast Iron Grates - Turning Red
Comments (2)Have you called BlueStar service department? After all the complaints about BlueStar's service on this forum I was expecting the worst but I have had nothing but great experiences with them. My calls have been returned the same day and my questions patiently and intelligently answered. I noticed my grates had spots where the finish was flaking off. I brought two of them in to the appliance store where I made the purchase. The salesman switched my grates with his floor model, trying to be helpful. However, the problem continued so I called BlueStar. Without skipping a beat, they told me they would send new grates. They said they had had a bad batch. The grates arrived via UPS, (and a tired looking delivery guy!) about a week later. Did you use a cleaning product on yours that could have made them turn color? Sounds strange. But I think you should call BS and see what they say. Meanwhile, does anybody have suggestions for what I can do with 6 slightly chipping BS grates?...See MoreCleaning Wolf Cast Iron Range top grates
Comments (4)I used something called Perforce grease cleaner from Sam's Club on my American Range cast iron grates. I just followed the directions on the bottle. I have also used Dawn Power Dissolver. You have to be careful to avoid getting the degreaser on any stainless steel parts as it will permanently streak them....See MoreCaring for cast iron grates
Comments (6)The grates are actually cast iron No kidding. So are mine. Most cast iron grates are porcelain coated not raw like a Lodge cast iron pan. I don't think I have seen cast iron grates on a range that are raw but there may be an example. but spills and splatters are most definitely going to happen Again, that is a given. How will seasoning be helpful vis-a-vis spills and splatters on good condition grates? There are many many people on Appliance Forum that cook with ranges that have cast iron grates. Below is a link to an ehow blog on how to clean your Electrolux range. It does say that Elux recommends seasoning your porcelain grates. From Blog The porcelain coated grates should be washed in the dishwasher and rubbed with vegetable oil. Do not cure the porcelain coated grates in the oven. As long as porcelain is in good condition I don't see a reason to season but Electrolux ...... Here is a link that might be useful: How to Clean an Electrolux Gas Range...See Morecat_mom
