Hello everyoneI

I am newbie to Computer Help Forum,

For last three days I have a problem with my Microsoft Works 9.0 Calendar.

Suddenly,trying to open it I got error message, here I am sending the capture of it.

I removed the program and reinstalled it.It did not help. I am searching in Internet for the solution and many fixes i found and performed did not solve the problem.

Would anyone know what might be causing this?

Any sugestions will be appreciated.

You could try doing a System Restore if you have a restore point available which predates the problem. Beyond that, I can only offer the opinion that perhaps you should begin to explore some alternatives to Works. There are several free office suites available which offer far more functionality than Works. You could begin by looking at Libre Office or Open Office. If you are only concerned with a calendar, you could have a look at VueMinder which has a free version.

I might right click C drive and select properties, then tools, error checking, check the box for automatically fix errors & then at next restart it will scan your disk for file errors and fix them.

If you know how, and have the capabilities, I might also run SFC /ScanNow ,,, system file checker. Checks the integrity of system files.

First, do some research on the available chemical fungicides. If environmental concerns are your top priority, then understand that many chemical fungicides are less damaging to the environment than are many organic ones. Most chemical fungicides are also much less potentially damaging to the person spraying than are even the mildest of insecticides. If you wear proper personal protection at both during mixing and applying, then your risk of contacting enough of the chemical to cause yourself harm is rendered exceedingly minute, and this is for chemicals who have a lower toxicity profile to begin with. I've found that BannerMaxx combined with mancozeb will give you 95-99% control of BS, and this is in a climate much hotter and humid for longer than most, except for Florida. If, after fully informing yourself of the choices available and the consequences of each one of those, you choose organic methods to control disease, be aware that the first principal of organic gardening is to get rid of the disease magnets. That may mean elmininating most of your hybrid teas, as they are not really suited to growing organically in most of the East. Concentrate your energies on the roses that have at least some resistance to disease and your results will be far more pleasing. You must be willing to accept some damage to your roses as a total gardening philosophy. Growing roses organically doesn't mean you just substitute products and achieve the identical spotless results. Also be aware that roses with poorly controlled disease are far weaker going into winter and have a much greater chance of not surviving even mild winters. That again makes your cultivar choices of primary importance. The most effective organic fungicide that I've personally trialed for preventative spraying is horticultural sulpher. It must be applied at least weekly, and during times of rapid growth like in early spring, sometimes twice weekly in order to coat the most rapidly growing foliage. It had an effectiveness rate of 40% in my trial, meaning that Angel Face, a rose that will defoliate 100% with no spraying, will retain 40% of it's foliage if sprayed regularly with sulpher. On a more resistant cultivar, of course the retained foliage % would be higher, but I find ANgel Face a good "lab mouse" with which to judge a spray's effectivity. Sulpher has a tendancy to burn at temps above 86Â°, which is highly problematic in my location as we regularly have many many summer days with temps above that. None of the baking soda and horticultural oil formulations that you may hear regularly touted had any effectivity approaching even 10%. Neem oil, while a decent enough insecticide, burnt leaves badly and also wasn't terribly effective. Copper is is good, but it burns worse than sulpher and can build up to toxic levels in the soil and is far more dangerous to the human than is sulpher. The more folkloric remedies of milk and cornmeal aren't even worth the bytes...

You asked this same question on January 26th and three people took the trouble to respond. You need to go back there and thank those folks and answer what they wrote. As an aside you should never ever include your email address as you have done as it exposes you to Spam. There are programs set to roam the internet looking for just what you have done. Be safe, never include your address. Also this is not only a help forum but it acts as a learning tool for all those who come to read but do not post questions themselves. In general, your layout is pretty good. However, if you move the DW to the right of the sink, you cause problems...it will then be inside your Prep Zone (b/w the sink and the range) and b/w the sink and the Cooking Zone (around the range). If you do want to make the switch, then a prep sink becomes very important. The prep sink will move the Prep Zone to the island across from the range and much closer to the refrigerator (a plus!). It will also put the prep sink close to the range. The layout w/the prep sink in the island accomplishes two things: You separate the Cleanup Zone from the Prep & Cooking Zones, thus making it easy to have someone cleaning up while others are prepping and cooking. Both my DH and I also work full time with two children...and, like you, most of the prepping, cooking, and cleaning up are going on around the same time. The addition of a prep sink in our new kitchen has made meal prep time much easier! Since you spend at least 70% of your time prepping (according to kitchen work studies), you should locate the Prep Zone in the most desirable spot...for most people, that means in the island where you can face people, keep an eye on the kids doing homework (or playing), and feel like you're more a part of what's going on. [Actual time spent cooking (standing at the range stirring, etc.) is only 10% of time...at most (it's less than that for our family, but that 10% is average). Cleaning up is 20% of your time.] If you plan seating at the island, be sure you have enough seating overhang...15" of clear space (i.e., after counting the cabinets & decorative doors on the back of the island). Having at least 15" gives you plenty of room to work as well as room for the kids doing homework or projects and for visitors and their "activities". It also gives everyone enough room for their legs w/o having to lean/hunch over to reach the counter or sit sideways. This means an island at least 41.5" deep: ......1.5" overhang on the working side of the island ....24" deep cabinets ......1" thick decorative door on the back of the island cabinets + 15" seating overhang ...41.5" deep island [Note: If anyone in your family is or will be tall or have long legs, consider an 18" overhang. We have a 15" overhang and now wish we had an 18" overhang. At 5'10" I'm OK with the 15", but my 6'5" DH & 6'6" DS consider the overhang too shallow and rarely sit at the peninsula b/c of it.] Other questions & suggestions... Can you change the windows in the kitchen? If you could "connect" the two smaller windows, you would have an awesome window wall! I would also bring the windows down to the counter so they're counter-height. Drop zone...a "drop zone" for mail, etc. works better and is more likely to be used if it's at the point of entry into the house that the family uses...and this usually means the garage entrance. Your "drop zone" is very far away from that and I'm afraid you will end...

Hey, thanks for the response. The sinks don't necessarily have to be far apart - I've seen some kosher kitchens that just have a double bowl sink with one sink for meat and the other for dairy. But I would strongly prefer to have two separate sinks (again, that third sink could go if I can't fit it) with separate prep space - at least 120 cm of counter space for each side. Having the oven in the middle makes a clear delineation between the meat side and the dairy side, but that's not an absolute requirement.

Just a heads up here. If you decide to do an Error Checking as Mikie suggests, which is a good idea and can hurt nothing, be prepared not to be able to use your system for a while as it scans the H/D. It will take some time so don't plan to sit there and watch it. A black or blue DOS screen will appear with information. Just let it go and the system will take care of itself.

If you do schedule an error check you may consider rebooting right away then the initiating process will be under your control rather than at an inconvenient time. The tool does offer a means to abort just before it starts. Once it starts you have to let it run and finish.

I had that exact same problem with Calendar with Works 8 in W/XP Home. There was a corrupted file. Restoring to an earlier date will not fix a corrupeted file. At least it didn't on my outfit.

After many futile corrective attempts garnered from your friend and mine, Google, as well as trying to restore from a backup HD, etc etc etc ad nauseum, I finally bot a completely new works disk (8.5), (about $7.00) uninstalled the Works currently on board, installed the new disk.

Then I got a completely different calendar, Rainlendar, and quit using Works Calendar completely, make sure it has no residual entries. Don't know how they get there but they do. Spread Sheet, Database anything but that Works Calendar. To bad too cause I like it. Not only that I like Works. Even more, I don't like OO.

thank you,for your opinion.Most probably I will stay with my Windows Calendar,or I will switch to Windows Live Calendar.or I run Vista (32 bits) SP2, Home Premium on laptop
The Calendars I have installed with my pc purchase are not that good as works9.0 Calendar is.

Just to be accurate:

As I now remember after installing the new Works 8.5 the corruption re-occured. I then uninstalled/reinstalled Works 8.5 and THAT's when I quit using the Works Calendar and went to the Rainlendar. No trouble since.

I Scanned computer for bad sector,defragnented,cleaned and virus/Malware/spywae scanned and I cleaned the registry as well.I make a new profile.
Nothing helped.So I began searching deeper and in result I found , that the calendar File: MswksCal.wcd is missing .
I deleted works and office from Program File...then renamed them in Microsoft folder to worksold and officeold Then I reinstalled works9.0.from the good installer. It did not help.The file is still missing,Can not be located on cd also,and is not present in registry editor.('Show hidden file and Folder'option is checked.)//My problem is not new and there are many sugestions to solve on Intenet.No one is effective so far.Thanks for response.

thank you for yur reply and link you sent,
I tried to perform the instruction the link provides at the very beggining.Unfortunetly it did not solve the problem.
There must be something blocking file exicution-I think not so smartly. Windows Security settings?,Norton Security or Malware.The more I think and try to find the solution,the more I get silly.

Hi Damccoy.
I Will be keeping my head up.In the mean time wil be trying solving the problem ,not only because I want my Calendar back,but also because there is something wrong in my computer and this makes me worried. Reinstalling Windows Vista is not the answer yet,so I tray to get my Works 9 calendar fixed.If I haven't it done,I will use Windows calendar instead of overwrtting hard drive.

restoring to an earlier stage
does not help,when the files are corrupted,I experience that too.

Yah!!!! That's the SOB I was looking for. :-)

Not for laptop? Ahhh too bad.

The Rainlendar FAQ says you can run it from a flash drive. Dunno if that would work for you. Maybe install it on somebodies' desktop then transfer it to the thumb? Seems a bit much.

Maybe have some nice person search their Vista SP2 32bits for the file its and path.. the MswksCal.wcd and email it to you.

oooh People maybe not want to share theirs, as it contains their saved calendars

Apparently need to enable show hidden files in the folders options to see it on CD or Hard drive.

It should solve the problem as Microsoft fix,but it does not.
The problem is rather common and not new.This is strange that is not solved by experts.
I realize the problem can lie within my computer, so OS.

The sync capabilities were removed from Works 9 eliminating the option of transferring info from your laptop to your desktop. Could this be the cause of your problem? If so, revert to Works 8 or use the Windows calendar as you mention above.

If all other apps run fine but one doesn't, it's unlikely to be an OS problem. Not impossible, but certainly unlikely.

I think the world is moving away from PC based calenders in favor of website-based ones. Things like the Gmail calender, which can sync effortlessly with the smartphones many people have, have become very popular. It'll also sync with many PC based programs too, as a way to give you back up, for times (like you've unfortunately experienced) when your PC-based data can't be accessed.

Hi Snidely.

In fact, other apps open with no problem. It did no come to my mind, that this indicates OS is not rather the cause.
Today ,still searching for an answer I found, right- clicking ' Mswkscal.wcd ' that the files is open with Internet Explorer,what astonished me,
as the file extension 'wcd' opens with Microsoft Works by default..
accordingly I am trying to change file association with right program.
I keep selecting Microsoft Works with no awaited result. It can be change to any program but Microsoft Works.
I know,I got obsessive. Must stop it.
