First, welcome! I spotted those seeds and posted about them a couple weeks ago. That was a great deal! I don't remember all I picked up, about a dollar's worth, seems not quite as large an assortment as you found, but I got my Sweet William, 2 pkts of it. Also got Canterbury Bells and coleus, couple more I can't remember. I don't even know if I like coleus well enough to plant it this year; I save some for next year usually anyway, most still germinate at least some. Most of what is on your list either wasn't there or I didn't want it. Several you list I'd already bought plenty online. The seeds said they were packed for this year so assume they're fresh, too, think mine are American Seed Co.

Basically different species will not cross fertilize but many merchants and traders are unsure of how to identify species correctly and so mislabeling does occur e.g., Scarlett O'Hara should be a solid throat Ipomoea nil but Ipomoea purpurea Crimson Rambler is often mistakenly substituted,Ipomoea purpurea is often listed as Ipomoea tricolor and so on... Learning how to do simple hand pollination will help to insure that the flowers remain true to type and allow you to do intentional crosses which are >always fun to do... The sepals on the flowerbuds,at the outer flower base and on the seedpods are the most reliable key to identifying... Send or post any photos of flowers that you need an ID on... TTY,... The pawpaws would be interesting from a local standpoint because we are just a few miles from PawPaw, WV and they do grow locally here along the rivers. My goal would be to get maybe half a dozen species so students could have some choice in what they wanted to take home (or take multiples) so I will look around for that. Again, there's no major purpose to this other than to give them an interesting side project to work on so I'm flexible in what we end up with. EDIT: Those pawpaw seeds you linked to have been stratified for over a year. Is there an upper limit on how long they will remain viable in a cold environment like that? You always hear about minimum times but not so much about maximum times.

I read in a few places on line that if not allowed to dry out a couple of weeks of cold stratification would help them germinate. Could you provide that citation? In my area, Red Maple or Acer rubrum seed will ripen next month. Some years they are shed in large quantities, not this year. When they ripen seed should first be checked for soundness. Cut a few in half and be sure they are not hollow. When you find a good tree use seed from that tree. Break off the wing and discard it. Direct seed them into pots, put several seed in each pot, you can always come back later on and remove the weakest ones. Red & Silver maples have seed which matures in May, cold stratification doesn't figure into their germination.
