Is there a way to prevent History from being deleted?

My problem is a granddaughter (13)who has fibbed about her age and been allowed to register on a couple of unsavory sites. One has been on the news a lot lately. Her mother is a single mom and must work to keep a roof over their head. I informed her mother about the sites and the granddaughter was warned to stay off these sites. I thought she was doing so well and then I stumbled on the site on History. Now tonight that event has disappeared. So, she has learned to selectively delete the ones I'm not supposed to see, so I can't tell her mom. I don't need a lecture about why I should not be snooping. There has been too much happening in the news in the last year and I am about at the end of my rope. Is there some way to set the History so it cannot be deleted?? Please say yes...Ida

Have you tried looking at the index.dat file?
You can delete the history but not that file.
And that file contains the history.

The file can't be deleted but it can be modified.
If the person knows how to do this then the info
can be erased from the file.

CCleaner will erase the contents of the file.

However there is far more to this than simply snooping, even with the best of intentions. You are very correct in being concerned about your grand daughter and her internet travels but controlling them is a very difficult issue. Almost any teen is much smarter than their parents regarding computers and anything they do not know then a classmate will provide the answer for them.

Once you are caught spying then any trust and respect built over the last 13 years can be lost sadly, you really do not want that to happen. Your daughter has to lay down the law - then enforce it if the rules are not adhered to. Even to the point of taking the power cord to work with her if necessary.

I have two composting areas close to trees. One is under a big old mulberry tree and the roots of it are invasive, but it takes a while. I tried to kill the tree by cutting a ring around it, but it did not work. If I turn my compost and use it when it is ready, or soon afterwards, there is no problem with the roots. If it sets too long, they do tend to try to grow up into the compost. I recently moved a bit of left over horse manure and sand that had been in one spot for about two years or more and found which basically ran under the pile, on out toward the garden, and had only put up one small root into the pile. . It is not very hard to keep them out if you turn the pile occasionally or use it up fairly often. If not and a good sized root grows under it, a good sharp axe will take care of them. On the other hand, my other composting area is in the far back corner of the yard inside a fenced area that I call my "compound" that includes my tractor shed and shop and hides most of my junk. There are lots of Oak trees in this area, they surround and shade the composting pile area which has been there for 5 to 7 years and thus far the oaks have never put any roots into the pile. They do drop some acorns in a good year, which sprout, but they are no problem to take care of. There is a decorative vine growing on the fence from the other side which puts out a few roots, but they are pretty easily controlled by turning the pile every now and then. I would say just go ahead and put your pile or bin where it is best for you and just do not leave the compost sitting there for a year or two. Bill P.

browser history is just that, what you have accessed using your browser and nothing else, so when you clear browser history that is all you are clearing, to get it to clear history on close you do have to x out and close your Internet Explorer which has no connection to still being connected via your router connection, when you x out and close your browser that resets the browser and clears your history and what ever else you have it set to clean upon closing. any other programs you may be concerned with having a history would be totally independent of the browser and would have to be handled through that program. When you power down your pc and cut power then you are fully disconnected from the internet and no programs can have access. so there is a difference in powering down the pc and turning off your browser in your case IE, you can clear IE history and cache from either the tools menu on the top of IE or in control panel under internet options. Using a program like ATF will do a much better job of clearing all the history and cache and stuff you want cleared. ATF-Cleaner directions are on the page

Google web history.. while there, may not be what you mean. IE has autocomplete which saves things typed in form fields which may be what you are wanting to clear. Some of those things are logins and passwords. I know of no way to clear just the google items. But to clear all autocompletes, it that will work for you -0 in ie6 I think it goes something like this ... 1. Click on Tools in the IE menu 2. Select Internet Options 3. Select the Content Tab 4. Click the AutoComplete button 5. Click Clear Forms 6. Click OK 7. Click OK again ~ Alternatively; If you think google is saving the search terms,(which they do for everybody) google search box might forget them if you were to delete the google cookies.

I got an email in response to my nasty letter of complaint about comments and photos not posting or disappearing. This was from the customer support department of Houzz, and written by a person as a followup to the canned reply that comes immediately. It basically contained that tired and worthless advice about having up to date, compatible software, blah, blah, blah. They suggested using Chrome. I wrote back saying their stale advice didn't work for anyone, they were losing forum members right and left, and they needed a new IT department. How can they not have received these same complaints many times already? I don't think they even have an IT department. Maybe they are going bankrupt. Wouldn't be surprised. Diane

Thank you for understanding! I understand the consequences of persuing any mode of tracking, but I also understand the possible end result of doing nothing. This child (young lady)has lived at the edge of my yard all her life. I have always been her caregiver and the feeling is no different than if she were my own. It's amazing at the difference in her everyday attitude since she has found so many "friends". I wish I had restricted some of these websites before she found them. Too little too late. Do you have access to the 13 year old computer?
If so the websites can be blocked or un blocked
by using your host file.

Save this page to your My Documents.
Host File
To open your Host File - They have warning - Only open your
Host File with Note Pad or it will quite working.

How to find your Host File.
Start - My Computer - Right click Local Disk C - Explore -
Click only the Plus + sign - Local Disk C - Windows -
System 32 - Drivers - Now only click the file - Etc - Look to your right for your Host file.
Their are 2. Go to the first one that's without an extension
Right click Host and open with Notepad.
OR
Do a search for Host - Click open containing folder.
Look for Hosts C:\Windows\system 32\drivers...
Open Host with Notepad.

My first post has little value to you. More trouble than
it's worth. It can only block websites that you know about.

To stop a 13 year old from visting bad sites.
Use an Internet Service that's has Parental Controls
and don't let the kids have Administrator priveliges.
I know AOL has parental controls.
