grandms that link there on the avast site links to the cnet download page if you put your cursor over the download button you can see at the bottom of the screen the cnet address. I bet what is happening when you click on the big download now arrow on that cnet download page, it sends you to another page where the actual download file pops up in a pop up box my guess is you have the pop up blocked and are not seeing it, you firefox or IE should show you a bar at the top saying you need to click there to allow the box. Since you are not seeing that pop up all you are seeing is the link for the pay version. Is your download blocked? if you have that blocked then you probably will not get the one from mikies link either. another site you can try from is major geeks just click on one of the download locations Avast! Free Edition 5.1.889

Bill Castner has created a little program that fixes some of the changes that these infections cause you can look at that too. Download to your Desktop FixPolicies.exe, a self-extracting ZIP archive from here: http://downloads.malwareremoval.com/Bil ... licies.exe * Double-click FixPolicies.exe. * Click the "Install" button on the bottom toolbar of the box that will open. * The program will create a new Folder called FixPolicies. * Double-click to Open the new Folder, and then double-click the file within: Fix_Policies.cmd. * A black box will briefly appear and then close. This will enable your Control Panel and stop the Administrative warnings, at least until the malware infection resets the registry policy keys again. You can run this as many times as you like. Many here feel that Superantispyware is superior to both Ad-Aware and Spybot Search and Destroy; perhaps it is. It is never harmful to have several programs for the spyware/malware stuff. I have these as well as Windows Defender. You are right about having only one anti-virus program, but in the spyware department, more is better. By the way, Avast is a great free anti-virus program, but don't run it along with McAfee.

We have had really good luck getting this wiped out. Recently this infection has added components including rootkits and you may have one of the latest versions.
