I went back to version 8. I did not recover the old screen composition but did regain the speed I lost with version 9. I use a lot of 3 tier screens on bookmarks. The screens used to be smaller but now they are so big that when the third tier screen pops up it flips back to the left side overlaying the first tier screen. Both screens being white on white makes for a split second look to see where the starting point is. A nuisance and unnecessary change in my book. Thanks for the link. It worked perfectly.

To open a new window, I right-click on either a bookmark or a link and that gives me several choices (Open Link in New Tab, Open Link in New Window, etc.). If I choose New Tab, it goes to the web page and shows the address; if I choose New Window, it goes to the web page, but doesn't show the address...it just shows a little, blank rectangle, and the grayed-out words "Go to a web site." Here is what it looks like: This picture is what I got after opening a new window for the GardenWeb Computer Help Forum. However, the behavior is similar regardless of whether I am on GardenWeb or not. Finally, since I first posted, I have discovered that, if I click on this little rectangle in the address bar of the new page, the browser stays on the page and the address then appears. Interestingly, although all of my Bookmarks transferred in the update, and work fine, many of them lost the unique little icon that often precedes the name and also just display the little rectangle.

I am not getting these follow-up posts emailed to me even though i checked to have emails sent - so I didn't know there was more. I hope they keep supporting version 3 - since we have 5 xp computers between home and work. I do have FF4 on dd's laptop - but not quite sure how it's going for her. She said she didn't like it - and I offered to try above suggestions to make it appear more like she's familiar with. She wants me to in theory - but in reality never wants to hand over the computer to have me do it. When I have more leisure to try again, am I recalling correctly that I can have 2 firefoxes installed - one version 3, and one version 4? And I can use xmarks to sync bookmarks, etc. That way I can get used to ff4 - but go back to 3 for the times I need things to go smoothly and not tinker? Any special instructions for doing 2 firefoxes? Thank you. Lynn. PS - still wonder if anyone else if having the issue where responses don't get emailed to them. To those of you who are uninstalling NoScript, because you are having a problem with GardenWeb, or don't like having to take the time to click the NoScript icon and temporarily allow a script to run, I would strongly encourage you to rethink your decision. It is most likely a poorly written or badly written script on GardenWeb that is causing the problem, not NoScript, and when you remove NoScript, you are greatly endangering your computer. A large number of websites are infected with one or another form of malware. That may be in the form of saving "cookies", running some type of scripting to collect information about you, or an outright exploit, clickjacking, etc, using scripts, and these put your computer at great risk. Most of the time, what NoScript blocks is not necessary for you to be able to enjoy and use a website. Scripts can make the Web an enjoyable place to visit, but they can be used in many harmful and malicious ways as well. You want to run only the "good" scripts, and stay away from the bad. That is what NoScript allows you to do. I know it takes some time and effort to learn to use NoScript, but in the end, it is well worth the effort to avoid having your computer infected with some very nasty visitors. If more people used NoScript, there would be a lot less people showing up here and other computer help forms needing help to get their computers back from the "bad guys".
