Copying pictures from floppies

I used to have a Sony Mavica digital camera which used floppy disks for storage. Now I have a stack of floppies filled with pictures that I'd like to transfer to the hard drive on my computer so that I can organize and edit, and eventually, burn some to CDs. So far it has been slow going because I know of no other way to transfer than to copy and paste each one individually. Is there some way to transfer as a batch? There are usually 9 pictures to a floppy, plus some sort of Sony text file accompanying each one. There has to be a quicker and easier way of doing this. All advice appreciated. Thanks.

Seems you should be able to select them all (I click on first hold the shift key down and click on last) then right click on one of them and drag the bunch into the folder you want them in and select 'copy here' from the context menu.

I just installed Nero because my kids use it and said it was easy (I need easy) It looks to be as if you bring Nero onto your screen (this is what "I" would try first) and click CD at the top of the Nero screen. Then I would go to Nero Photo Shop and make any adjustments I want to make on my picture...you open the picture you have on your computer. Then...there is a "save" option there, and you can save as Local disc "C".....I haven't even tried Nero as yet, and have never burnt a CD (yeah, I should be answering a question...lol) But..that's what "I" would do to begin and see what happens. There are a lot of options to play with on the Photo Shop... I was also told that you can use CD's like you do floppy discs....only right click your open photo and "send to" not "save as"....and it should go right to your CD when you send it there.

Gerry if you have a scanner you could scan the damaged ones and send them to me to try fixing. I am no expert but I enjoy those kinds of tasks. Just send one if you like so you can see how it turns out. I use Corel PhotoPaint but any better photo editing program will do the job. There is quite a learning curve though. When I started it would take me 40 minutes to swap a head, now I can do it in few minutes and the result is much better than my early days - mostly LOL. I have linked Gimp below, this is a free photo editing program you might like to try. You should grab the manual as well as the program perhaps. If you decide to send any please scan as bitmaps (bmp) rather than jpg and create a file of 2 megabytes or more so we have something good to start on. That worked, Bob. Somehow, I thought I had already tried that. However, rather than dragging the pictures, I still used copy and paste. By right clicking on one of the highlighted pictures and doing copy and paste, they are all transferred in one action. Maybe that's what you were telling me.

Now I have found out that in using Picasa, I can download directly into Picasa from the floppies and don't need to save the pictures in other folders. Picasa, of course, then puts them wherever I want them. Always learning something new.
