How does your OTR microwave plug into the cabinets above?
Comments (5)Thanks! Yes, that is what I was looking for. Yours looks more simple and clean then I was thinking it would look. Does the excess cord just hang out in the back of the cabinet? That is the part I was curious about. We only need a foot of cord, but the cord is 3 feet. We were thinking you could put plug mold or something around the cord to hide it. Originally my husband was going to run it up and down until it ran out....See MoreWhich is worse?Microwave on counter or OTR?
Comments (41)A bookshelf type doesn't necessarily have to take up counter space. We just finished cabinetry design for new construction kitchen & on attached, marked in red, is lift up cabinet that will hold counter top micro, although could be open - we just happen to be doing integrated so went with it covered. Like your bookcase idea too - if you've got room above though, you could free up that counter spot. . UNTIL RECENTLY, I'd have praised OTR location. We loved convenience as we micro a lot during dinner prep, handy while working below at stove. NOW wouldn't get one again. OTR stand for Oversized Timer / Reminder for us - that's all its good since several months ago when heating element expired. You cant just pop in a new one like buying a replacement counter top micro. When new house micro expire, unplug old, plug in replacement. A reminder that helped us decide against the pricier drawer micro....See MoreOTR microwave outlet
Comments (2)ALL outlets must be readily accessible. No splices behind drywall. No boxes behind drywall, or cabinets. If you must unscrew and uninstall something to get to it, it not code compliant. It should be corrected by an electrician....See MoreLeast worst option for microwave placement--maybe low-profile OTR??
Comments (44)I am the OP. We visited an appliance store the other day that had real kitchen scenarios set up with working appliances. The microwave drawer was full of spatters, and I certainly wouldn't want to try to get down on the floor to reach in to clean it out. So, I've eliminated that idea. I think (not 100% certain though) that for us it is going to be either the GE spacemaker that hangs from an upper cabinet or a shelf like Darbuka has that is installed at the bottom of an upper cabinet. Darbuka--Qjuick soapstone question for you: Is this what your soapstone still looks like or has it darkened considerable over time? I love soapstone and have some elsewhere but as just too worried that it is so dark. Your looks much lighter and is lovely....See Moresalilsurendran
