JJ and Lily, I move roses around like they were furniture in a living room. Here is my best experiences. First, when possible, I move them as soon as the dirt is thawed enough to be dug in the spring when they are dormant. Dig the destination holes first. Next, dig a large area around the roots to take as much root with you as possible AND, take as much dirt as possible. I use 2 shovels and place the rose between them before I lift them out. Sort of like a shovel/rose sandwich. Then I place them in their new hole and add water and fill in with dirt. Most often they don’t even know they have been moved. To do it later in the season is tricky. I did it last year. I used old sheets on copper pipe trellises in front of the roses and made sure I watered twice a day. It was 90-100 degrees. I moved 4 of them,and 3 of them were little. The 3 little ones did great. The jury is still out on the larger rose. It’s canes stayed green, but it didn’t grow leaves afterwards, so I’ll find out if it’s alive this spring. Believe it or not, I am going to be moving 3 of those 4 roses again this spring... it’s just the way I do. :) If you like the location, JJ, I would give them another year. Use a good fertilizer (I use Osmocote 1/4 cup per plant early in the spring) and water them well during the season. See if that doesn’t make a difference. Rebecca

There are all kinds of high-end finishes that can be done with covering wood holes, and it usually involves an artistic level of painting with multiple colors to match the grain in a faux-painting style. For just a solid color, there's not much you can do to hide it if you are just going to do a wood filler.

I'm 2 months in with the Chagny and I'm sad to say that I still don't like it. We have been discussing replacing it but that introduces a whole set of problems since it is not a standard size. Im the mean time, I would love some help to figure out how to make this work for us. I have used the gas oven a few times, for roasting veggies, meatballs, and making French fries. The veggies took longer than they did in my Wolf Electric wall oven and they were black on the bottom, but not crisp on the top. The meatballs looked more steamed than roasted (and I had a glaze on them with honey in it that should have caramelized). French fries were okay. I used the roasting pans that came with it (should I have used the pastry sheets?). I also used a 1/4 sheet pan on the bottom rack but those were completely burnt, even though racks 1 and 2 were fine. Is the gas oven much hotter on the bottom? As for the electric oven, is it okay to use a half sheet pan, but rotated? It sticks out over the rack but the door does close. Not sure that it is okay to do that? Lastly, I would love to change the French plate for the classique 18K burner but I have been unsuccessful at trying to reach anyone at Art Culinaire. I am sorry to be negative - I really do want this to work. I'm just frustrated.

In general it is very difficult to change structural type of stuff like moving a toilet in a condo. It is simply not the same as doing work in a single family residential home. Beyond it probably being difficult to alter the plumbing in the building for such a change, it is unlikely that you would get permission from the HOA. The roof of the parking structure below is most probably not just a slab the way it might be in a single family home. It would have pipes and electrical wiring since there are no doubt lights in the parking structure and there might be pipes and other structural stuff there. The condo board is not going to sign off on something like this without have something that assures them it can be done without compromising the building. And even if that was possible, obtaining that would be very expensive and I doubt would be worth it just so that you don't see a toilet in a bathroom. Bathrooms HAVE toilets - no surprise. A shower drain is different than a bath drain - even one in a tub/shower combo. I live in a condo (FWIW) and when I remodeled I converted the tub/shower to a walk in shower and the drain had to be changed. I needed to access it from my neighbor's bathroom - luckily he gave me permission. The condo HOA needed to approve the change as well but this modification is much less difficult than moving the location of a toilet - especially in a multi-family residence. There are 122 units in my building - all of them have been remodeled since the building was first constructed and not a singe toilet has ever been moved.
