36' Pro-style? gas range under $3500
Comments (4)I am in the same boat, ecwv. I have ruled out Fratelli Onofri because we are only considering all gas ranges due to electrical/budget considerations. I had a chance to look at the Berta and a 24" Fisher Paykel today. I like the looks of the Berta and I am not too concerned by the oven size--with the rack at the lowest position, you have 10" (height) until you hit the heating element. I measured my old Kenmore range when I got home and it seems to offer the same height to me when I set the rack at the second to lowest position which is where it almost always positioned. I also rarely have more than one thing going in the oven at a time so I don't need a huge oven. The salesman told me a couple of things worth passing on--only when I pressed him did he admit preferring the Berta because it is more substantial, and there is no doubt about that. While it is true that the FP does not have the heft of a Wolf or a Blue Star (those things are tanks) or even the Berta, it is a home range--nothing commercial about it and I think it would suit me just fine plus I like its European look. He also told me that Fisher Paykel and Delonghi are made by the same manufacturer and just glancing at their specs, they seem to be the same except for cosmetics. He cautioned that FP and D have recently switched their manufacturing to Mexico, Bertazzoni is still made in Italy as it has been for generations. My primary interest is in purchasing an all gas range with some significant BTUs within my budget. I also do not want a lot of electronics--no more motherboards for me. All three fit the bill. And the same salesman told me that while he doesn't sell many FPs, the ones he has sold seem to be doing well--not too many repairs, he said the same for Berta and then added that he has sold many of those so he has more to draw from in terms of repair history. I left undecided and called a friend who has been a Berta owner for 2 years. She said she would not do it again--the oven size is too small for her cooking style and the burners perform inconsistently for her. There are several Berta fans on this forum, I'd love to hear first hand about FP and Delonghi....See MoreBest 36' duel fuel ($5500 or under)?
Comments (5)As an appliance dealer in Seattle, I would not recommend the Thermador ranges as they do not offer the quality or versatility of their competitors. Only two of the burners have a simmer and it is achieved by pulsing on and off the high heat burner...that's like turning on and off a light and saying that the room is "somewhat dark". Either the burner is on high or it's off. Also you are limited to simmering on those two burners. I think the best values in dual fuel ranges are either the DCS or the GE Monogram. They offer true simmer on all burners, true high heat on all burners, and nice ovens. The DCS ovens have incredible broilers and racks on ball bearing rollers. The Monogram ovens feature self-cleaning oven racks which is also nice. That being said, I know that neither of these brands offer dual fuel models in the $5K range, they are both higher, so if you only have the mid $5K budget for the range and can find a Thermador dual fuel in your area for that price, you might need to jump on it and just accept its shortcomings....See MoreUnder counter 27' oven beside 36' Blue Star range?
Comments (3)For me I wouldn't be happy with the look if it were my kitchen. My layout so far has a U-shaped run of counter top, with a 48-inch range with double ovens on the top part of the U. I did consider having a 36-inch range with one oven underneath along with a small under counter oven (to be used for occasional baking) in my peninsula. I ruled that option out because it would have taken away from the storage area for my huge collection of pots and pans. Even with that option I was a bit worried about the aesthetics, even if the run with the secondary oven was perpendicular to the main run holding my range. I would have been really concerned had the secondary oven been drawn in right next to my range. Doesn't Bluestar make a 36 inch wide range with a double oven underneath? I know Fratelli makes one. I considered this as well but had to rule it out because DH wanted something that could hold a ginormous turkey, even if it was only once a year if that. Depending on what you cook that could be an option, but I would just make sure your pans/roasting dishes fit inside beforehand....See More36" range or cooktop with under counter oven
Comments (15)Thanks so much for everyone's input. I would like to consider other brand 36" range that is around $2500, but I went to a few appliance showroom in San Francisco Bay Area, the cheapest brand is kitchen aid, I could not find those brand on the link. Deeageaux posts here. Does Anyone use Verona 36" dual fuel? It is only $2500. I can put the oven on my 4.5x8' island. I didn't think of cutting granite/ceaser stone cost for the cooktop. Somebody told me the oven in the range has a fan/venting system for the smoke, but wall oven doesn't. Is it true? I am thinking about induction cooktop. Not so sure yet. Rosie: only concern I have for oven not under the cooktop is the smoke(If I burn the food or grease from cooking the meat) from the oven can't be vented out by my hood. Do you find that is an issue?...See Moremtbt
