From what little I know of Vista you already have that capability in the calendar where it will notify you at preset intervals up an upcoming event.

Also I imagine Windows Mail is an improvement over Outlook Express. The OE address book has spaces for all kinds of personal information for your contacts including birthdays.

Well, that's not exactly what I'm looking for. I was hoping for a recommendation on a separate program that I can set up like an old-fashioned address book.

here are a few options to consider, remember anytime you download a program to always right click on the file you just downloaded and select to run a scan on it BEFORE you open and install it to be sure it is clean. I do not use any of these so can not comment on them. One that I used for years and like a lot was the one that came with Lotus.

Thank you ravencajun. None of these are quite what I'm looking for. I used to have an old program that mimicked an old telephone pop-up address file, where you could see all the entries under a certain letter (A-B) at once. It was a very old American Greetings Create a Card Address Book, with fun graphics and very very simple. (Too many options and I wouldn't know what to do with it.) Unfortunately, I can't seem to find anything close, and the old version no longer exists.

the American Greetings Create a card with address book it is available but it does not look like there is a Vista version listed, you could contact them and ask if it does work on Vista.

Thank you for looking this up for me. I've already determined that it doesn't work with Vista, which is why I'm in the spot I'm in. I'm having trouble wrapping my head around my ''options'', which aren't working very well for me...

I appreciate everyone looking out for me. It looks like Hallmark Card Studio has an event planner and address book which looks similar; I'll upgrade to this so it will work on my computer. Thank you! I couldn't have figured it out without you.

sometimes it is a pain to have to move to some new updated program but after a while of use you might find it does what you need and like it, I know that getting used to it period is not always fun.

and you never know they may provide a new version of it that is vista compatible if enough people complain so let them know .

Before you buy software, try using a spread sheet in Excel. You can set up the column widths and line spacings as you like it and its easy to print out. Anytime you make a change to the "address book", you can print yourself a new book to have in your desk drawer or a the phone table.

Thanks jemdandy. I would hate to have to print the amount of phone numbers I keep every time I added a new one! (I must keep a rather large personal phone book, compared to most people. In addition to family and friends, I keep the names of every contractor and business I frequent!)

That's actually a good idea if I was willing to start completely over. I would have if I hadn't been able to find the software that was so similar to what I'm already used to. Sadly, I am a creature of habit, and I liked how the address book linked with the personal calendar. At this point, since I liked how it worked, I'd rather buy software than figure it out from scratch!
