yahoo web based mail address book

i am now using yahoo's web based email rather than outlook express. in oe i had the ability to set up different mail lists. can i do this with yahoo web based email? i can't find out how and i have looked so i assume i can not.

it was very handy to have in my oe address book different folders or email lists. now i have all the people in my address book listed alphabetically. this is a pain as i have to hunt for the name i want. i would like to put all the commonly used names in 1 folder or directory, open it and find who i want fast. i suppose i could put characters in front of the most commonly used names causing them to sort up front but that is not how i wanted to do this.

You can search your contacts in the new version of Yahoo Mail...I'm not sure if that is what you want. You can also make groups in you contacts list so that if you want to email everyone in Group x all you have to do is type in Group x.

no that is not what i want.

for example :

an address book folder called 'usual', it contains just the email addresses of the 5 or 6 people i usually email. another folder called 'hig' it contains address of people i used to work with. another folder called 'capre' another set of email addresses of people i used to work with. see the point? i was able to do this in oe 5, oe 6 and with outlook. now using web based email via yahoo i can't create these folders. all my contacts are in 1 big list in the address book.

anyone use yahoo email and know how to specify separate named folders that contain contacts in the address book?

Due to confursion with the two new members I am sending out six to emily... Time and the gardener (too many words not enough photos lol) Great Garden Decor - please return did not have labels so I wrote name and address on front page. Book has some neat ideas... I want to try one on page 74 with circle and stones on circle as well as brick patterns on page 73 Lawn & garden book. All about azaleas, camellias and rhododendrons The treehouse book, alhtough this book is not really garden. it is inspiring to look at photos and made me feel like a kid again for 10 minutes which made the book worthwhile just because of that! The little guide of herbs. Sorry for the delay emily! I just got 4 trees cut down in my yard what a mess.... Still have carcuses of 2 left in my yard we are trying to cut up.

I don't have an Ipad so have no clue. There are some nice forums on apple I am sure and people would know or maybe someone here with an Ipad has a suggestion. Even on the computer I back up my address book and my favorites as you just never know if something might happened and you would need to reload them. Mary

Ladies, if you save your email addys via an export feature in your mail program, you should also be able to import it again, in to another email program. I have done this, when I went from earthlink to gmail. in gmail is the export opting like this: Export Contacts Export your contacts so you can transfer them to other accounts or save them offline. Who do you want to export? All of my contacts - 755 Only contacts in What format would you like to export to? Google's CSV format (for importing into another Google account). Outlook's CSV format (for importing into Outlook or other applications). vCard format (for importing into Address Book or other applications). I have a folder in mozilla (as that is my browser) where I export all my addresses about once a month. I always overwrite the file that's already there, thus I have the latest and up to datetest (LOL) file for emergencies. In the import option on gmail I have this: Import Contacts We support importing contacts in the CSV file format (Comma Separated Values). For best results, please use a CSV file produced by Outlook, Outlook Express, Yahoo!, or Hotmail. For Apple Address Book, there is a useful utility called "A to G". Please select a file to upload Import Above all, know where you save your address book!!! otherwise, you can't import it in to a new mail program. Another tip: Use a "free mail program", like hotmail, gmail, yahoo etc. With this your mail is web based, and you can pull it up on ANY computer, and you don't have to change addresses when you get a new server. I have two yahoo accounts the older version was easy to do what you want the new version gave me a headache.

New version:
http://help.yahoo.com//us/tutorials/cg/mail/cg_migrate3.html

Old version:
Add a category> Click new category> Name it> Go to search contacts> Key in the name you gave it> Up it comes.

thanks tumblenweed, it appears i can not do what i want.

i saw the categories but frankly these are distribution lists ie more than 1 email address bundled into 1 generic name. so if you want to email 12 different people, grouping them into a distrib list makes it easy to send an email to them as you select just 1 recipient vs selecting all 12 individually.

it would make no sense to put my commonly contacted email addresses into a distb list as then i'd be sending email to all them. it sure was nice to be able to put people into groups (folders) and then open that folder and select the address i wanted vs looking thru dozens of email addresses.

i am surprised that yahoo hasn't figured this out. the only way around this is to put a prefix in front of email names that will then sort them and group them together. what a dopey way to get this but i may do it.
