Looking for specific software

I am looking for some software that will take a large number of pictures and make a picture out of them...I know this is clear as mud, LOL! But I have seen some ads where they have hundreds of pictures (think thumbnail size) and together it makes a picture of something else.

Anyone know how to do this or what it would take to do this? Or what it is even called?

This is no help but I know what you are talking about. We have a book with large pictures composed of smaller bits of pictures. The pictures are fascinating. And a few years ago I read how it is done- mosaics, if you will. Possibly the book explains the process. I haven't thought about the book in several years. Maybe I can find it. Worldstart.com has many forums. Those people are very helpful and can possibly point you in the right direction.

gmom74, Thank you!! I couldn't put the word with my thoughts. Mosaic! That's what I'm talkin' about, LOL.

When I started out I thought that would be great too. BUT, the software costs thousands of dollars. And you'll be hard pressed with the margins in this business to keep itupdated. Aside from that if you have print offs of every plant for every client you get the client and yourself wrapped up in an obsession about every detail. Pare down and do with less. I use a vector program called freehand which is actually software for page layout and other misc graphic design projects. Colour catalogues are great for clients to give them an overview of the plants you usually use. If they want specific info, and they usually don't becuase they havn't a clue how to read plants (that's why they are calling you) send them a couple photos via email if they really need to be sold. The client doesn't give a damn about zones and soils etc. They want to see a beautiful photo of what will be in their yard. Most importantly focus on the plants outside! That is where you get your business. Through word of mouth on the gardens you do for people.

caco has good recommendation. As Photoshop Element is such a popular software, you could find many users, and it is unlikely the company would be out of business in the foreseeable future. Costco or Amazon have good price on the software. You could also take a Photoshop Element class at your local community college through online or in person. I took one years ago, and am planning to register for the spring session to learn about updates in the current version. The course is still very affordable, it offers structured learning, and you will have a instructor and classmates to help you with questions, tips & tricks.

Is this what you are looking for? Cactus Base Pro I would check to see if there is an updated version of the software, as this page lists XP as the latest version of Windows it is compatible with.

Right away I thought of Picasa2's multi-exposure in making a collage...but I don't think it does a large number of photos...Then I found one where you take different exposures of the same shot and create one nice photo...

I found a freeware one called AndreaMosaic. It works really well, although I think I need more photos, with different colors in them. I tried it with 100, but I think it would be better with more. The picture I used converted the 100 to over 800 (reusing them) so I think the detail would have been better using more pictures. Very fun to play with!
