We're buying a new dishwasher. Any we should avoid?
Comments (20)I had a Bosch and returned it within 2 weeks. It had an odor and the dishes wouldn't get nearly as dry as previous dishwashers. And it was installed correctly . . . so don't believe the odor is going to be avoided by that. I think it may be the luck of the draw. Replaced it with a Kitchenaid KUDS03STSS. Love it, love it, love it. To my untrained ear sounds just as quiet as the Bosch. Gets the dishes totally dry and not a whiff of an odor. I truly believe that all appliances can have issues. So it will just depend on what happens in your case. My one absolute firm recommendation is to take your dishes and try them. My tall wine glasses did not fit in the Bosch but fit wonderfully in the Kitchenaid. My dog bowls (and I wash lots of them) did not fit well in the GE Profile (they wouldn't have stood upright so would have gotten filled with water) but fit perfectly in the Kitchenaid....See Moreso you win lottery... describe your new kitchen!!
Comments (28)I love reading this thread! Lots of great dreams. I like the idea of having a beverage and snack area in the kitchen. That would sure make my life easier as a lot of the time I'm just going in the kitchen for a cup of coffee and a muffin or a drink of water and my kitchen is in the back of the house. I would either buy or build a different house with my mega-millions. The kitchen would be the center of the home, not like mine is now, way in the back with no room for anyone to be in there. I'd get a fridge with METAL handles (what's with these plastic handles on fridges these days?!). One of the best things I ever had when I was young was an OLD and small fridge in one of my apts. but it had metal shelves that swung out so you could see what was in the back. Not sure why they don't make fridges like that anymore, but I'd have one custom made! I'm also thinking I might like a prep sink, it might make me more inclined to wash dishes as I go if I didn't have to do both prep and clean up in one small sink like I have now. As it is, I shove the dirty dishes to one side for "later." And I would like my kitchen to open up to a dining and family/living room. Wide open. And I have always wanted a breakfast nook, with a window! And a little desk area with a laptop and small printer and then shelves above for my cookbooks. BUT, my real dream is that dream kitchen above and then a little breezeway/foyer out the back door of the kitchen, leading to a canning/preserving kitchen. That one would have a huge freezer on the wall, a large pantry, and a root cellar. Big prep sink and cupboards for spices, jars, etc. Anyway, you get the idea. And in front of the breezway a huge decorative herb/flower garden, and on the other side of the canning kitchen--the vegetable garden, barn for the chickens and small milk cow, and orchard. That's my mega-million dream. And here in NE PA it would be mega millions. I have a colleague who is living that dream but it is on a farm that was in his wife's family for generations. Over a million to purchase something like that today. Oh, and I want a back porch to store all the weird things I never use except in the summer, and I want a playroom with a bar in it. I want it to be one of those tropical themed bars, lol! And then my own personal chef, so that I could just focus on growing and preserving the stuff, since that would be more than enough to keep me busy....See MoreDishwasher leaked, so now I get a new floor!
Comments (13)Well I am happy I got a new dishwasher! They gave us a $1600 allowance for a new one! More than I expected. They have been real cordial and I have not had any issues. The last thing the gal said was get me your estimates on the floor and we will see what we can do. They asked for 2 estimates. When they replaced the dishwasher today I took more pics. There was also damage to the side of the cabinet. The defect was in the drum of the dishwasher where it was supposed to be flush it wasn't on the right side, it was pulled away. This was behind the rubber door gasket, so not to be seen until you replace the gasket. There was also water and/or steam damage on the other cabinet on the other side as well. After 4 service calls and a new dishwasher, I think our $150 purchase of the warranty was totally worth it! I think we are going to decide on the darker tile. So now the question is when can you get it done?...See Moreneed to buy new dishwasher Kitchenaid vs Bosch
Comments (31)Old thread I know, but I did want to sadly, amend my above statement about my Whirlpool dw in case anyone is digging through old threads to decide which brand dw to buy. I did love my Whirlpool dw more than a person should love a dw, but now it is ready for the heap. It was the best dw I ever had and everything always did come out sparkling clean each cycle. But in the last year, I've had 4 or 5 (I've lost count) significant repairs, including a new motor a few months ago. It's current death knell is the new motor is dead. I am done having to wait weeks on end for the repair tech to come out, decide the problem, order the part, then wait weeks longer to make it onto his schedule to replace parts. The machine has been out of service as much as it was in service for a year now. Yesterday was my 5 year anniversary of taking delivery of the Whirlpool dw and here I am awaiting delivery of a Bosch dw, that I hope will have a better track record over time. I guess what I am saying is, I hope to get at least 5 trouble-free years out of the new dw. I'm disappointed as I loved this dw and I sorely miss it--been without it's service for nearly a month again. But, now I don't trust that repairs will last any length of time and if a new motor only has a few month life span, I'm not getting back on board with Whirlpool :-( I have no way of knowing if Whirlpool replacement parts are crud or if the repair tech being sent out by the warranty company is the dud. I'll never know at this point. I found this thread because delivery of new Bosch dw has been delayed another week and I wanted to use this grumpy time to do more research to make sure I didn't get myself into another unpleasant situation--this thread showed up on the search results. I'm sorry to report this news, but this thread has been a concern of mine for a year now since all the major problems started happening with my Whirlpool dw and didn't know where it could possibly be in the website here. I'm glad it showed up for my recent search so I could amend my statement. I'm sorry if my above comments led anyone to a troublesome path. Very much so....See Moreplllog
