what gives?

I purchased 1 gig of ram, and a reputable computer person installed it. He removed the 512, because. . . Anyway , now I find some websites that I frequent are much slower than before. I have also noticed that advertisements that border pages are not able to be downloaded? I'm not very computer literate, but I would like to know if the installation can affect speed.

If anything, it should have sped it up. I assume you are also using an anti spyware removal utility on occassion to get rid of spyware and doing a system clean periodically to get rid of temp files etc. Do you have an up to date anti virus program??? Would probably help if you listed your computer model and what operating system you are using

Did you purchase one stick of 1 gig of Ram or two matching sticks of 512 megs? Kind of wondering why he removed the original 512.

As Gene noted listing a computer model and operating system would help get you the best answers...............

I went ahead and shoved in more shavings, maybe raising the level by a couple of inches. Still nonstop pecking. So I added another couple of inches. Pecking stopped! Flicker then sat in the hole looking out for much of the day. Now about ten days later she may be sitting on eggs. Fingers crossed. So the advice to fill the nest box fully up (with sawdust), as compared to the advice to only put in 4 inches (of wood shavings) seemed to work better in my situation.

My zucchini plants aren't doing very well. Only one zucchini so far! OTOH the winter squash bed looks fantastic with lots of blooms. I went to a Monarch butterfly class at Petal in the Pines, Canterbury NH. She said there are about 400 different kinds of bees in NH. It's obvious that bumblebees are pollinating our cherry tomatoes. The tomatoes are along the south facing windows of our kitchen where we have a small table. My husband noticed the large pollen sacks on one bee. I have started to see info about building bee houses. One was just built at Squam Lakes Science Center. I agree borage is good to have in the garden. Mine self seeds and I have to thin it out. I planted my cukes very late so no cukes yet. Something must have pollinated my very few bean plants (poor germination from old seed). I picked enough off one plant for two servings! I also have calendula and dill self seeding around the garden.

<Joanie, I have a Bosch and I use Cascade pods. I don't have any issues with them.> Unfortunately, I do have issues with Cascade pods in my Bosch DW, especially the Cascade Platinum, and so I have been using Cascade Complete instead. Still it leaves an intense fragrance on the dishes that very much makes all the food taste "off" but I have started running the rinse cycle twice, and this has helped. We bought a Whirlpool DW for our house in Cathedral City, and it does not have this issue with Cascade - even the Platinum that my sister bought when she went with my brother to buy detergent. I was very mad at her when she brought the hated brand back, but the Whirlpool DW seems to be able to rinse most of the disagreeable smell away. Why can't detergents have no fragrance?

I hopefully figured out what was lacking on the tree. The silver beads were too tiny and I hung them wrong, which was the traditional scallop with one strand. I ordered two of these Kurt Adler silver beads, and they're larger which will make a difference from afar. :) Take a look at this video, it's kind of painful to watch because the guy is so bad at it, but he showed me how to do it this way. It's simple. A question for all of you below the video. Painful, just painful. I'm not going to post the video but there was a green tree full of colorful ornaments like how I do mine. They hung the beads last and I'm thinking about doing that because it really makes the tree stand out. If you do garland, when does it go on the tree?

Okay, my computer is HP 3200+ AMD Athlon. I have Windows XP. My anti-spyware is AVG 8.0.

He probably removed the old 512 because it had a slower clock rate then the new or it was bad. The symptoms you describe do not sound like a ram problem...

Tell us the reason you replaced the ram in the first place, besides adding more memory - were there other problems with the machine? I'd like to rule ram out as you had a reputable person install it...

I added ram to increase memory--but now I'm not sure I needed it. He removed the old because he said that having two different capacity strips would cause problems, not specifying what that could be.

How many memory slots does you computer have. I see it max's out 1G of RAM. It may be that it needs 2 identical sticks of 512MB for proper operation rather than the single stick of 1G. Some computers when inserting memory, must be done in pairs

Adding info to comments of genes and others. The HP site shows that for the A645c, 512 MB is usually installed, Max is 1 GB **(2 X 512)**. It also says there are two slots available. That tells me that 2 sticks of 512 are to be used. The description of the 512 stick is PC2700 MB/sec 184 pin DDR1-333 SDRAM.

yes with DDR ram it should be used in 2 sticks of matching size to get its full potential, you need to have him trade out that 1 stick and put in your old 512 with another matching stick of 512, I would print out the specs for your pc and take with me to show him what is required, which is something that he should have done. Definitely make sure the stick is matching.

to find out exactly what is on your pc and your pc info you can get the free belarc advisor, a great tool to have, download it and then let it scan your pc to give you a full list of what is on your pc. I like to print a copy out and have it in my file.

Here is the specs page from HP on your pc if you scroll down to where it mentions the RAM you will see it clearly says Max 1GB (2x512) which means 2 512 sticks.
