My hero is gone!!

Sadly July 19th my Dad passed away...we buried yesterday and he had a military funeral with the Marine corp and gun salutes and flag presentation...i am heartbroken but hes with my mother now....he said he wanted to dance with her again. One more of the WWII verterans gone he was/is a double Purple Heart winner and the US Military gave him such a honorable wake...300 friends family and neighbors attentened they were parked on the grass and up the streets...he was loved by all...anyone who has ever attended a miliatry wake would agree it is a sight...I jumped out of my skin at every gun shot....Ill miss my hero!!!

WOW doris!! that is so smart!! i would NEVER have thought of that!!! last year when we had so much rain our basement flooded, the terrible thing was that just that spring i put everything from the attick (which it was safe) down to the basement, now i must mention that in the basement its like 5x8x6height. its a very small basement. well in the summer for some reason it flooded here, we are on a slope so we didn't get anything, just the creeks got so bad that they blocked us in town. funny!! . till a month later i went to the basement looking for something and OMGoodness i noticed that it had rings that would have been up to my neck on some of the crates, (thank goodness we were smart enough to get them switched over befor we put them there!! ) we lost alot of things, books from our youth, some of tabors baby books, some of tabors baby blankets, some of tabors baby clothes, some of our (i think my grandma's blanket she made she passed on ages ago) so you get the pic. so we had to clean that thing out big time!! all them crates, and then up went the crates AGAIN!!!! LOL i could NOT get that horrible smell out of the stuff either so they had to go!! wish i had known, but we thought our house was sound for some reason, dont know why??!! no sump pump. that would have been nice!! LOL ~Medo

Thanks for the kind words. I am in awe of her. And I am so relieved to be posting about her recovery. I got word about an hour ago about a woman in our community that just died as a result of her eating disorder. I can't help but worry that it was one of the "girls" in the support group we attended.They are all so courageous. The email talked about a special meeting of the support group, so I am guessing that it was.It is heartbreaking. Magothy River girl- good memory- yes it was a few months after my DD was diagnosed. A week before the semester started her junior year, her sorority sister died suddenly of a pulmonary embolism. The funeral was the first day of classes. Rough times. But hey sleep is way over rated. I hope that posting here may be helpful to some of the parents on the board. There truly is such a thing as recovery from eating disorders, even though some literature says not.

Well Lou, the table actually had a very large board that came with it but for big cooking we just cleared off the whole table and went at it right on the table. Sometimes the board would be used to put some of the ravioli and such on when we ran out of the five feet. Smiles. Oh yes, I sure had fork duty. And I am an expert at rolling the gnocchi with a fork. She had her own method where you would push on the gnocchi sitting on the table with just the right pressure and a deft swish and it would roll perfectly. Yes, the macaroni was rolled with a long dowel one of her sons cut for her. Just remembered: The board was used if company was coming for polenta, otherwise when her family had it for dinner they just poured the polenta on the middle of the table, covered it with the sauce with the sausage and such and the kids all had spoons. That's a memory of my Mothers.

I watched him jump too, freaked me out. When he was tumbling around and around I was thinking the worst had happened, but then he straightened out and was ok after that. I thought it was sad he or somehow his parachute opened like 20 seconds too early to beat the free fall record. He was trying to beat a record set in 1960. We were trying to figure out how back in 1960 they were able to get someone up that high - and who paid for it!? He was almost 25 miles up in the air when he jumped.

It's so hard to lose the ones we love, especially someone as special as your Dad. He sounds like he was a wonderful man, and I bet he's happy back with your Mom now, dancing away. You have my deepest sympathies.

Eileen, I am so sorry about your dad. Just for us stuck here on earth. I know he is with your mom and they are happy beyond our comprehension. My mom has contacted me from the other side, so I KNOW we go to a better place after we leave here. It isn't any easier for us to be left, but know that now God has your dad in HIS keeping, but you will always have him in your heart.

Eileen, I'm sorry to hear about your Dad, I know you'll miss him beyond words. I'm happy that he had such a sendoff, though, and that he's now dancing with your Mom.

It's only fitting that his service to his country was recognized, and so I'm thnakful it was. Hugs to you and your family and everyone who loved him. You'll all be in my prayers for strength and peace.

I'm sorry about your Dad, my Dad died 8 years ago. I miss him still, but I am just so thankful for the wonderful memories I have and will always have of him. He was a great Dad.

He was also a WW2 veteran.

I'll remember you in my prayers!

Thanks! Anyone who ever met him instantly loved him....his gift of humor was incredible....any party I ever have (and you all know theres alot) you here a burst of laughter from a crowd and needless to say he'd be in the middle of the crowd telling a story. At the wake everyone who came in mentioned how funny he was many were crying then theyd think of something funny he said to them or story he told them and theyd start laughing while crying...amazing man!

My hero is gone!!
