I think the back to front or front to back is not the problem. I wouldn't care what prints first since I don't do much text printing.........The problem is HOW to not print the sample label in PayPal. I had to buy 2 shipping labels today. It did it again, twice, including that 3rd print page with the upper instructions on how to print the label. I've looked through the options, but it is not going to tell me how not to do Sample label printing. I removed the printer and added it again and it works great only it didn't solve the label problem. I have also googled for a fix, but no one seems to have run into this problem. I have had this printer for a long time. I bought it with my XP and now I have W 7. AM I READY FOR A NEW ONE?

Here's some info from fixya.com. It follows along with owbist's suggestion. "Create a new folder on your desktop and name it newhpdrivers(substitute your manufacturer in new name). Un-intall printer and printer software completely. Go to manufacturers website and navigate to their drivers/downloads or support menu. Select your model, choose the relevant software and download to the new folder you created on your desktop. Power down your computer. Reconnect the printer to the computer and turn printer on. Power on pc. Windows will detect new hardware and ask if you have the manufacturers install cd or a location to check for install files. Direct the wizard to your new software, follow the rest of the setup instructions and your (you are?) done."

So why not ignore the parts of your current printer you do not need and use the rest? There is not much of a market for used printers, unless you already have a buyer of course. Buying another while you have a useable one seems odd. Watch for sales, just a couple of weeks ago there were some Canons on sale for under $40. No idea where now but it was a great deal at the time and with the depressed economy bargains will pop up occasionally. There are 83 here, all between $50 and $100. Notice the 'Reviews'? click on any row of stars to read the reports of actual users to aid your search. I personally like HP or Canon. In a thread a few weeks ago a couple of users spoke highly of recent Lexmarks so perhaps they have smartened up somwhat.

Yes, they're different. "Firmware" on an electronic device or gizmo (to use the technical term) is the software inside that makes it do what it does. It's not unusual for firmware for PC peripherals to be updated a time or two after release. Think of it as like a Windows update, firmware updates are for the software that runs the hardware. If there are firmware downloads, you get that and instructions and software to load it from the manufacturer's support site for the specific product model. The device is usually required to be connected to the PC if it's a PC peripheral. The internal copy of firmware sometimes can get corrupted (just as can happen with app or data files on a PC) and sometimes reloading it can help. "Drivers" are something else. Drivers are the software that reside on a PC to help it communicate and interact with a different specific pieces of hardware. Think of it this way - the printer speaks Norwegian, the PC speaks French, the driver is the interpreter that allows them to speak to each other. A different printer speaks Czech and it has its own drivers. Another kind of firmware you may be familiar with is the firmware for your home router. Some update automatically, sometimes the firmware update needs to be triggered. It's a good thing to keep current because updates tend to cover fixes for security purposes and to eliminate bugs.
