GE Profile Induction Freestanding Range vs. Kitchen Aid induction
Comments (8)Sherean; I've had the GE Induction Range for about 6 weeks. Switched over from a Sears Smooth top range, with which I despised greatly. I grew up cooking with gas. I LOVE LOVE LOVE (did I mention I love this range?) this range. I will be redoing my kitchen this summer, we bought this range early b/c Sears had a fabulous sale in October (I got it for $2159). I also decided against wall ovens as I have a convection micro: that and the range provide plenty of oven space. I love the responsiveness of the burners (the middle warming hob is radiant, not induction, btw -- not a problem). The Convection oven is large, has worked wonderfully. The warming drawer was fabulous at Christmas -- we had many people over 5 hours and it really worked well at staging the biscuits and meat. The rangetop is a joy and soooo easy to clean, compared to that #$^%%$# smoothtop that is sitting in my garage. My only complaint thus far is that fingertips show easily on the control panel - but disappear easily with a microfibre cloth. Oh, and the timer has a weenie beep, compared to the ^%$^&^%$%% old smoothtop. I bought a Circulon Infinite set and a Henckels International Classic Clad. I have been very pleased with both sets. One word of warning, it took 3 delivery dates to get the range, it was delievered 6 weeks after I bought it. Plan accordingly. Here's a link where I have 2 posts discussing more about the range. Good luck and Bon Appetit. Rita Here is a link that might be useful: more comments on GE Induction...See MoreGE Monogram black frameless induction cooktop
Comments (19)We are building a house too - it won't be completed until January of 2010. It has not been started yet. We were going to go with a 30" gas slide-in range and suddenly my wife tells me about induction cooktop. Oh well! Now we are going to change. Is it worth it to change from gas to induction? We are in Florida and she says gas is going to heat up the whole kitchen. I am still concerned about the reliability, etc. I am a GE employee - so I get discounts - but still! We are planning on getting the monogram 36". There are two models - one has glass edges and another one has stainless steel edges (more expensive). I actually like the glass edges. Is one better than the other or is it just looks? GE installation instructions are confusing - in one place they say 12" of space is needed below the cooktop for air flow for electronics ventilation - but then they say an oven can be installed below! We are still debating whether to put an oven below or put it in a separate cabinet...See MoreGE Profile Induction -- First Impressions
Comments (16)We've had our 36" 5-burner GE Profile induction cooktop for about 2 months now, and I LOVE it for all of the reasons mentioned above. Two things anyone might want to consider when deciding on which induction to buy: 1. SERVICE--DH didn't get around to installing the hood until AFTER the cooktop had been installed. He dropped his hammer on it from a height of 2' and cracked the glass. Yes, I was angry, especially since I knew he was tired and I'd tried to get him to stop before he made any mistakes! But he called GE, the repair guy called us immediately, and ordered any parts he thought might have been damaged (the control panel was right under the glass where the hammer hit). He had them FedEx/UPSed to us, and told us to call him when they arrived. We did, and he came the SAME day and did the repair. The control box had not been damaged, so he returned it. 2. SS RIM--If you've ever had something boil over, having the stainless steel rim instead of only the smooth black surface will keep most things from overflowing onto the counter or floor. I can't count the number of times I've cooked rice and had a considerable amount of water boil over--including yesterday. :o) I'd forgotten I'd put it on power boost (do NOT leave the cooktop while this is on), and walked to the other side of the kitchen to get something. Over it went out of the pot, but it stayed within the boundaries of the cooktop because of the SS rim, although the mess spread over three burners. Easy to fix. Turned it down so it stopped overflowing immediately, picked up the pans on the three burners and wiped them and the cooktop off, and was back in business in a couple of minutes with the rice simmering away at the perfect temperature. No matter what I've cooked, there's been a perfect simmer point. The placement of the different sized burners also works well for me. Soon the real test will come, when DH and DS both stir fry on the two front burners. There's room for the 14" stir fry pan, the 12" extra deep 6 qt saute pan, and the 13" French skillet in the back on Low to keep things warm. I LOVE this cooktop!!! I also love my new pots and pans. Up until we got the induction cooktop, I'd cooked for decades using a few not-so-good ones. While researching pans, I ran across explanations of what each kind of pan can be used for, which were helpful in making choices from the many AllClad options. I ended up getting the Kitchen Aid pans recommended by Consumers Report (partly because I like glass lids), and several larger AllClad pieces from Williams-Sonoma that were a lower price in their catalog as well as some that went on sale in their store after Christmas. I also got some from the AllClad outlet in PA via the internet. Several of the W-S prices were cheaper than the outlet! I'd looked over the pans in the reduced price collections of the various stores, but had determined that most of the ones I wanted were not included in those offers. Although the AllClad is expensive, I especially love cooking with their large pans. Anne...See MoreGE Monogram vs. Profile refrigerator
Comments (14)I should have mentioned that we also have a GE Profile CD FD refrigerator w/a water-only dispenser & we've been very happy w/ours as well...after adjusting to the counter-depth. It took a little while since we went from a 35 cu ft standard depth to a 21 cu ft CD...it helps that we put our old one in the basement. GE products we have: GE Profile Counter-Depth 20.9 Cu. Ft. French Door Refrigerator with External Water Dispenser (PFCS1NJWSS) http://products.geappliances.com/ApplProducts/Dispatcher?REQUEST=SPECPAGE&SKU=PFCS1NJWSS&SITEID=GEA GE Profile 36" Built-In CleanDesign Cooktop (PP962SMSS) http://products.geappliances.com/ApplProducts/Dispatcher?REQUEST=SpecPage&Sku=PP962SMSS GE Profile 30" Warming Drawer (PTD915SMSS) http://products.geappliances.com/ApplProducts/Dispatcher?REQUEST=SPECPAGE&SKU=PTD915SMSS&SITEID=GEA GE Profile Built-In Double Oven with Trivection® Technology (JT980SKSS) http://products.geappliances.com/ApplProducts/Dispatcher?REQUEST=SPECPAGE&SKU=JT980SKSS&SITEID=GEA With the exception of the cooktop, all are SS and are very easy to take care of. Fingerprints aren't much of an issue. I clean my SS appliances w/either Weiman SS cleaner/polish or Pledge in the brown can every couple of weeks and they look fine. The cooktop is solid black w/a SS rim. The SS rim scratches easily and it's the only appliance that I have a cleaning issue with...the solid black shows all the streaks, etc. from cooking so it has to be scrubbed every night...and something appears to have stained it as I can't get it off w/a razor blade or cleanser. My old GE Profile convection range had a speckled top and it was a breeze to clean and keep looking good. When we gave it away last year it was 13 years old and still going strong! (It's one of the reasons I got another GE Profile this time around...) Eventually I want to get an induction, but they also have solid black (or white) tops...no gray speckled! I'm hoping in couple of years they'll have one by then... However, I did not get a GE DW as I had so many problems with my old one. I had to replace it after only about 3 or 4 years...after replacing the motor once during that time. We replaced it w/a Maytag that was also going strong when we gave it away last year. We got a KA Architect Series DW...but I'm not happy with it either...it doesn't clean the dishes unless I use the "Heavy Duty" cycle. Our vent hood is a Vent-A-Hood and our MW is a Sharp MW drawer...we're very happy with both of these....See Morebommai
