Has anyone heard about Norton Safe Web Lite?

Hi everyone,

My sister received something from Norton Safe Web Lite. This program warns you of unsafe Web sites right in your search results. I was wondering if anyone here has tried this and how it works? You don't have to have Norton to get this. I will send a link for you all to look at. Please get back to me to let me know what you think about this.

I really appreciate your input and info, thanks a bunch.

Symantec said Norton Safe Web Lite will be available as a free beta for between three and six months.

Many of us use WOT which will do much the same it will tell you in your searches if a site is safe or not along with much more. You can add it to your browsers.

Wow, I didn't realize all this was going on, on this thread! First, sandhill farms, I had no clue you were new here, as I am very new, too, and there are lots and lots of fine folks in this forum. Regardless of how long I (or you) have been here I stand by my original statement. It was not meant to be an attack. I have nothing at all to hide. I am an adult female with no criminal record, or even a speeding ticket in over fifteen years. Still, my business is my business, and I reveal personal and private information only those those I choose, if I can help it. You having, as you stated, a background in law enforcement and investigation, is an asset to many. But because of that you know better than most folks that there are a lot of unscrupulous people out there who use such information for harm. The fact is, you don't know who lurks here waiting to pick up personal information about any of us to use to their advantage. I could say more, but I don;t want this to turn into a tirade. It most assuredly is not. One of the disadvantages of communicating in a forum situation is that folks cannot always gauge the tone a poster uses. Again, I say, I am not yelling. I am not mad, either, just moderately defensive. Welcome to the forum, I have learned a tremendous amount of knowledge about roses here. And I would relish the opportunity to see some of your photography. I, too, am an amateur photographer, and landscapes are my favorite. I hope you will be able to see past the idea that I was attacking you and understand the reason for my concern. Cheers, Green

Bob Walsh covers Mimi's egg-rooting method in his book on "How to grow plumeria-frangipani anytime anywhere", btw. Still miss the "Aloha Plumeria" forum though...and Mimi, too. I hope she's happy in her life, and stress-free. I'm currently rooting a bonus plumeria with an egg, and an Oahu Star cutting w/o one, -since I only had one egg available when potting them up. The bonus cutting is showing tip changes on it, already, but I can't consider this a fair test, as the Oahu Star cutting was considerably thicker than the mystery (gift) cutting was, when I rec'd them. To do a fair comparative test, I think I'd have to use 2 cuttings from the same source and root them the same way, (except for placing an egg under only one of them).

Nope - I don't think I have that information on error codes - but just to make sure - when I get back home again late this week I'll look at what I've got and see. I'll post and let you know. Mine is still chugging along, my wife tells me we are going to need to replace it (the lower oven craps out every once in a while and I have to reset it) and every once in a while it says weather data unavailable but then it has always come back - its working today. I should name it, it has so much character and idiosyncrasies I think I consider it my personal challenge to keep it running now. I do think that the screen problems people describe are because the ribbon cable flakes out and you have to re-seat it. We did use the refrigerator a couple of weeks back and heaven help me - it worked just fine. Loud, but fine.

It's funny I just wrote a question about wall mirror and mounting lighting on it. Yes I have seen several light sources on the mirror and it's beautiful. Not sure of your vanity size or how much light you need but I do have a couple of suggestions. If you have canned lighting directly above your vanity I would go with mounting your light sources on each side of the areas you would be looking into. Lighting specialists say to center your side lighting eye level or about 60 inches from the floor. The side lights remove the shadows when your putting on make up etc.... Since you already have lighting from above the lower level task lighting would be more useful. I am installing canned lighting and mounting sconce's on the mirror in my bathroom. Do a search of bathrooms and you will see many examples of lighting on mirrors. It doubles your light and looks very elegant. You also might request a dimmer for ambient lighting on those light sources. Hope this helps. You may also want to look at designers bathrooms on HGTV web site for great examples of this idea.

Hi Owbist and Raven,

Thank you for your information. The Norton Safe Web Lite popped up on my computer and I decided to try it to see what it does and to my surprise I see no problems with it and it shows on the side of all of the websites if it is safe or questionable. The good ones have a checkmark inside the color green and the questionable ones are in gray, so I stay away from those. I like this kind of thing because I have often wondered about accidently clicking on something in a search and getting hit with something I wouldn't want. This way it gives me something to judge by. I have Norton Antivirus on this computer, so I thought why not try theirs first. I will save your info Raven just in case I would need to change to it. Thanks again and I sure hope you all had a wonderful holiday.

I would add the WOT in addition it will give that much more protection and may give you more info than the Norton does.
The thing I caution about using any Norton product is how hard it is to remove anything Norton from a computer, it digs into the system so deeply and leaves so many parts behind using a regular removal.
Also as Owbist pointed out it is a beta product and I prefer not to recommend things that are still in beta.

The link that I am sending is a post from them stating that.

I am pretty sure from what it says that what I downloaded is not a beta version. Norton sent it to me 9 days after they posted this. So far everything is working fine.

I agree with you 100 percent about downloading anything Beta, I stay away from those and when this came in there was no mention of it being Beta. My curiousity got the best of me, so I did a search on it and this is what I found.
