fwiw WPA is the security most would use. One passphrase of 20 charatures is recommended by most to make it virtually unhackable. That security is to keep others out of your router or off your internet connection. Many people screw up writing down passphrases on paper and/or retyping it in. Can't connect complaints usually blaming it on other things are frequently solved by whoops, my passphrase was entered wrong. Copy & Paste passphase is virtually foolproof. But requires a bit of though. Dont push the OK button until you've pasted it onto notepad or something. WEP is ok, but there are programs Johnny Jr next door might use to gain access in a few minutes. One of those four WEP keys is designated the primary key with a bullet or check box... that checked key you would copy/paste into your computer for the passphrase or key. You're not going to be automatically given a key in your home. Maybe at work when login & security is handled off a server. When you do credit cards and other secrets online usually its on a secure web page and those web pages are encryped so mr bad guy & neighbor are not able to see anything except googlygoop.

Thanks for all the suggestions - I tried looking at the "Filter MAC Addresses" and not sure I am understanding - but I went to the web address for the router and found the place where you can select the option for "Only Allow Computers with MAC Address Listed Below to Connect" but that option was not selected and no addresses listed. So I didn't feel comfortable setting it up as opposed to adding another address if there'd already been some listed there. I did follow the instructions for finding the address on the laptop but the number looked a bit strange - just a bunch of zero's with an alpha character at the end which made me think maybe I hadn't found the actual address and of course that made me hesitant about adding to the router for fear I might foul up the 2 computers that are working correctly. I did try the 'flush' and powered everything back up in the sequence you gave me but same thing, and then had to do it again in order to get the 2 original computers back online. So now, I am debating the uninstall of the Lenovo ReadyConn - I may try that when I get the courage. OR I've been thinking that I might just be better off buying a new router. The one I have is 3 years old - if it's old for a router, then maybe that is my best bet and hope a new one will fix my issues. I can't thank you enough for all the help you've given. I'll keep working with this and trying and re-trying as I have time over the next few days. If/when I get this resolved I'll let you know what I've come up with. I disabled the firewall. I also found a previous thread that described essentially the same problem. However, it was finally solved by installing Vista updates. Right now, I have no way of getting on-line. I also ran a Network diagnostic that says: "This computer has the following default gateway entry 0.0.0.0" "There is no default gateway entry" "Redirecting user to support call" Is there anyway to get updates without being connected? The desktop probably has a wired network card that is currently connected to the DSL Modem (GT701). Disconnect that. The GT701 hooks up to the phone line. The TEW-633GR connects to the GT701 by a network cable. Connect the WAN port on the TEW-633GR to the connection on the GT701 where the desktop used to connect. Connect the desktop to one of the LAN ports on the TEW-633GR. There should be some sort of setup for the TEW-633GR. I don't know the exact steps you'll need to take, but there's probably a setup routine in the manual you can follow. I would suggest that you do the following: Change the SSID on the TEW-633GR Change the admin password on the TEW-633GR (and make a note of it) Set up the TEW-633GR to use encryption, preferably WPA set up the wireless on the laptop to use the same WPA settings as the TEW-633GR I've done this a lot, so some of these things seem simple to me and I've probably skipped steps.
