I just got mine (2011 version from Publications International, edited by Linda Z) today, literally just finished it and came to post. It really does just repeat what the NCHFP site says, I'm not sure all of the recipes are there but the basics are (no soups or meats, just fruit and veggies) but it is very clear and easy to follow, I like the spiral binding. I also like that it's half the price of So Easy, and that I don't have to refer to website or Ball book (not a spiral binding). Very good for beginner - I was going to give it to my sister, but she's moving to Japan so I may have to hang onto it for a while ;-) - or she may find it very handy there, the problem might be finding jars, though new guidance is that you can reuse commercial jars as long as standard rings and flats fit. I can send her some flats and she can reuse rings over and over. Though I think they tend to use a lot of plastic packaging over there, not glass jars.

Hey Beth, I'd love to comparison test, not as competition, but for the pure joy of the peaches. It's just that I've eaten more SC peaches, having had a daughter that lived in Spartanburg for several years. My experience with Ga peaches has probably been from shipped peaches, and that was an unfair statement, so may I take that statement back? We all know that straight from the orchard is far superior. One of our greatest pleasures when the peaches come in is peaches, cut up, and sugared on hot buttered biscuits for breakfast. We eat fresh strawberries the same way. Nothing wrong with what Linda said, either...eating out of hand with the juice running down your arm. OT, but I had a glazed black raspberry turnover, that I bought at one of our Farmers Markets yesterday, for breakfast this morning and it was very good. I don't usually like that sort of thing for breakfast but I had been up for 2 hours so it wasn't like rolling out of bed and eating immediately. And the tartness of the raspberries cut the sweet of the glaze...very good! Ah the fruits of summer!!!! jude

My husband and I just returned from a weekend getaway with just such a situation as you describe..."fully equipped" kitchen and with us in the mode of hanging out watching the sun set over the ocean rather than driving into town to eat etc. We do this twice a year, for a long weekend, and I've gotten quite expert. The accouterments of the "fully equipped" kitchen tend to change, so I always bring some basics. The important thing is to remember is kitchen items can play double roles in situations like this. A frypan can double as a lid for a large pot, a mixing bowl can serve as a serving dish or a soup tureen. Ziplock bags are your friends. And a roll of saran wrap and foil can save you in any number of problem situations. I find it helpful to write out a menu listing for all meals. Saturday breakfast, Saturday lunch, Saturday dinner...etc. Once this is accomplished, it is much easier to think about what special utensils or seasonings you might need to bring. The menu, once written, is not chiseled into stone by any means, but it gives you a framework for packing. When you visualize making any given meal, you will find yourself suddenly remembering that you would need this or that which you hadn't thought of. I have also found it a good idea to pack a few food items to cover, "just in case." Tins of smoked oysters, sardines, pate, Vienna sausages, crackers, a can or two of fruit, olives, pickles,some cheese, a few Top Ramens or Cup O'Noodles, cans of Campbell's soup, chili or pork and beans. Whatever quickie foods your family would eat without mutiny. These come in handy for the unexpected incident or the instance where the one whom everyone depends on to cook gets a bad headache or something.

Oh yeah, I went to Jungle Jim's last year, it's a hoot! I loved those porta-potty bathrooms, LOL, and Elery loved the cheese department. (grin)

Annie, I walked by that porta-potty so many times, I just couldn't bring myself to go in there- until I had to! What a relief! LOL

Lucky ladies! What an adventure. I can't believe that I overlooked Jungle Jim's when I was in Cincinnati! I shared my Michigan Foodie Road trip (with Sherry and Peppi) with friends and their eyes glaze over.

Mustangs, actually Jungle Jim's is just north of Cincinnati in Fairfield.

And I know what you mean about peoples eyes glazing over! Even my bf doesn't get it-she can't fathom a group of people talking about and taking pictures of food! lol

What fun! Jungle Jim's is one of my favorite places ever! And I love the cake decorating place. May have to check that out the next time we are visiting OH.

Looks like you had a great time. I've been to Jungle Jim's too. Made my husband stop there with me on our way back home from Illinois one year. My MIL could not believe that we were making a stop at a grocery store. She is NOT a foodie like I am - no fun at all:(

LOL, Dixie. Elery and I are going to Lebanon, Ohio, to visit his family on June 27. Family visits are usually me sitting around with his Dad, stepmom, brother, sister, aunts & uncles, etc. They talk about family members I don't know and never met and places and things I've never been to or done and I smile and nod or play with the kids and dogs.

His Dad did tell Elery he'd like us to till up a spot to plant a few tomatoes, so I might have that to occupy me.

As a reward for being a good girl, LOL, we're stopping at Jungle Jim's on the way home on Sunday. Oh yeah! Should I post pictures of the Porta Potty bathrooms? (grin)

Tracey, we're going to miss each other by a few weeks, I wish the timing was better, I'd love to meet you.
