Umm, Yeah, that's exactly what I'd expect to happen. You used the wrong paint. You need a porch and deck enamel, apply according to the directions on the label. The floor probably has to be sanded now. Does it say anywhere on the label of the paint you used that it is acceptable for floors? Casey

My kitchen has seen heavy use in the 1 1/2 yrs. since it has been completed. I have soapstone countertops and have a 3" soapstone band between the countertop & backsplash, but the rest is left just painted. I haven't had any problems thusfar maintaining the paint. My issue with installing a tile backsplash is twofold. First, my kitchen is open to the LR, DR & sunporch areas. I don't want to have to coordinate those spaces to complement a backsplash. The other is what writersblock mentioned above. Even in the short time I have been researching kitchens in preparation for our build, some of the backsplashes in the magazines I've held onto are already looking dated to me. I don't want to invest a lot of money in a look that will make me groan in remorse in a couple years' time. Erika, your backsplash is beautiful and has timeless appeal. I would advise to stick to paint until you discover a look that you will love even if it goes off trend. You can protect your behind-the-stove area w/ stainless sheeting if you're worried about splatters.

oldbat2be, THANK you! The photoshopping looks great! I just randomly chose a leftover board from the garage in hopes of it fitting under the cabs. It was so close I did not bother to cut it down, lol! So now I am more torn than ever. Yes, I apologize, it is VERY hard to get accurate color representation, which is why I am trying to assure you that the colors are not the problem here. The cabinets are much warmer than they photograph, and the counter less blue. The tile is also less saturated and contrast-y. But what I am taking away from this is that I really do not like the marble tile. I mean, I LOVE it, and when the accent and marble are together and NOT on my wall they are breath-taking. But that photo is not doing it for me, even adjusting it for color in my mind's eye. It is just too...elegant....I think I was hoping that the accent would dress it down, but no. I think I am just going to go back to beadboard. I did clad my island in panellized beadboard, so the repetition will be fitting, I think. BUT I am not going to paint or work on this part today, so there is plenty of time, still, for more input. Especially on what the heck to do with that tile, lol! I feel confident I can sell the marble but the accent will be another matter. I sure would like to be able to use it somewhere in the house...maybe my powder room. MAYbe.

have you addressed the mold and why there is moisture getting into the walls? I have a 100 yr old concrete house which had eroded and absorbed water so did a lot of research on the topic - if you have conventional latex or oil house paint on the exterior it may be trapping moisture- you would need something breathable on the exterior (I used potassium silicate coating aka mineral paint) and possibly on the interior as well. You need to keep water out, but vapor from outside and from inside (from laundry,cooking) needs to pass through freely. Re: what it is, I m sorry if this soundss snarky but you would need to tell us what it is. It looks like plaster or drywall, or possibly they did some kind of cementitious coating on the inside directly onto the concrete? Can't tell from the pic.
