Has anyone used eShowerDoor.com???

I'm pricing frameless shower doors today. Got quotes from several local companies as well as this online place, eShowerDoor.com, that builds the door to your specs, crates and ships it.

My glass is pretty simple: one fixed panel and one door (hinged to a wall) that meets the fixed panel at 90 degrees. I think we can handle the install without too much difficulty.

Does anyone have any opinions, experience, or thoughts about ordering on line versus local? The quotes are not all in but it's looking like the glass cost + delivery (no install) is about $600-$800 difference between on-line and local. That's darned significant!!!

I haven't but when I was comparing prices for our shower, I found this company which ended up also being local to me. Their prices were reasonable and they also allow you to deal with them direct, not just on line. You may want to give them a try.

On their site they only seem to have framed or "semi frameless" doors... do you know if they have true frameless (which is what I am after)? I can always call them in the AM and ask, too.

any decent home and garden center or patio supply place should be able to point you in the right direction. the restaurant ones im sure are custom made and most likely very expensive. First of all, high praise to Chaya for solving the problem with my order. She was very competent and a pleasure to work with. I ordered a freestanding tub, but realized after I placed my order that Massachusetts plumbing code does not approve the bathtub brand (Perlato). I wished I had been aware that some plumbing codes will not approve particular tubs! There was no mention that this could be an issue on the website. I suggest a disclaimer should be clearly posted warning customers to check their own state's codes. Now I am out $550 to pay for the shipping return. So, what I thought I was saving is now lost and then some. I'd like to reorder a code-friendly tub from them, but feel too scared due to the return policy. The best thing I need to say is that Chaya handled my situation well. If she owned the company I would definitely reorder as she has a sense of fairness and efficiency that is rare.

when web searching for quartz, i came across sites in other languages, where they had a selection of manufacturers that i had never heard of. Searching more, i found some of them had a foothold stateside. I contacted them, got samples, and found them all the same. On all their web sites they all say they are all the same. Hth

Has anyone here bought a Neff oven and converted it for use in the US?

This Neff oven (example) runs on 220-240 volts at 60 hz so it should be usable out of the box. The problem would be buying it and having it shipped to the US; and, of course, there would be no one here to service it if it broke. Interestingly, Neff is a wholly-owned subsidiary of BSH which also owns Bosch and Thermador.

My advice, DON'T have a door, if you have the room and can configure it go doorless. The door you describe sounds similar to mine, and it has leaked on the bottom edge of the door and where stationary and fixed panels meet onto the floor (think goodness it's stained concrete) ever since it was installed, and it's only 4 years old. I'm about to get rid of it and be doorless!

Stacey, yes, call them. From what I understand, they do custom everything. Even though I ended up having to buy from HD out of convenience I would have preferred to go through this store. They were super professional and very knowledgeable.

We bought ours on eBay and were very, very happy with the product and price.

Installation has to be perfect -- but if you've got the right tools and are picky enough, go for it!

Can you elaborate on "installation has to be perfect" or is there a thread about your experience someplace I can read?

Actually Stacy, we bought from 'TheShowerDoorSpecialist' and their price included free shipping.

On my 'installation needs to be perfect' comment -- I guess all I'm saying is that there's not really much margin for error in these doors. We have about 1/4" gap on the hinge side, and slightly less on the opening side, and our door is in a tiled opening - so not glass on one side, wall on the other. For a great installation, your vertical surfaces need to be smooth and plumb (which was difficult with our handmade tiles), and the measurement at the top should be the same as your measurement at the bottom and at every point in between.

Our door came with installation instructions, which we followed to the letter. If you do that, take your time, and measure 18 times, you'll be fine ;-)

Thanks! I can't believe how much cehaper the two ebay guys are than the other places I have quotes from!!! They're half the cost of both online vendors and the cheapest local place. I certainly appreciate your vote of confidence in them, since I'd be nervous otherwise, but I am pretty sure that's the way I will go.
