If you can get 1/2 inch PVC tubing in 20 foot lengths, you can make a hoop over a 4 foot wide bed that's roughly eight feet high in the center. Shove four rods of rebar thin enough to go inside the tubing and long enough to get a firm hammering into the ground with a foot or so sticking up. A couple of bent nails or electrical conduit 2-hole clamps can help with steadiness by "attaching" the rebar to raised bed sides if necessary. Slide the tubing down over the rebar. Don't worry about roots. You can put up hoops in parallel like a Conestoga wagon or cross them in an X. You can also put up plastic tubing "poles", which means straight sections that don't hoop back down; they will be more flexible. How's your wind, and are you comfortable putting large sails into the wind? I was given a hot tip for edged and grommeted shade cloth: Harbor Freight. They also have scads of cheap clamps or you could use those huge binder clips! Also remember, you don't have to shade all the plants if some are in the shade of others. to undo what ever he did you can always simply do a system restore to the time prior to him messing with it and changing things, this is super simple to do and if it does not fix it you can easily reverse it. Just select one of the restore points on the calendar prior to your problem and choose to restore to that point and follow the directions. System Restore and should you need to go to a previous month since we are at the beginning of Jan just use the beside the current Month. And you know you could set up a separate guest or limited user account on your pc for others to use when they are visiting you so that they can not mess with your personal settings, just be sure to keep you Admin password well hidden. that is the whole point you use the image program to capture the image before something happens, then should you have any issues with the pc you simply reload the saved image and you are back to the time the image was taken just like a snapshot so you do want to do the occasional image backup so you have somewhat recent images. That way you are not just backing up your documtents and files you are also backing up your entire windows operating system fully updated and all your settings etc. You never want to wait till it is too late to do any type of backup. If you had to do a regular re-install that would mean you would need either your windows cd or the recovery cd that will bring it all the way back to how it was when you bought it which means you would need to do a LOT of updating of the operating system, redo all your settings then go through all your files and data and insert them in. I wouldn't care so much if he wanted shade plants--he can have those spots but we'd have to throw down if he wanted full sun spots. This reminds me of a time I sent my guy to Lowes to buy bark. I never asked but surely, he read the label? The thing would be enormous! Who buys a plant they don't know without reading the label!? Since he made no mention of its size, I made no mention of its size. From that day on, he came out every evening to water it with a full cup of drinking water after dinner, and initially, I told him he didn't need to water it daily. He'd tell me he can FEEL the plant needs water and pours the cup of water in--and the thing wouldn't even rot! In fact, it looked bigger every day. If I did that in the middle of the evening every single night, things would mold, melt and combust. Thankfully, within a few weeks he lost all interest so I could begin its demise. He would peek out every once in awhile and ask "How is my plant doing?" I'd tell him it's not good, he would tell me to water it and I said I would. That thing took 5 months to die in the corner of my balcony in full shade (like, I opened the storage door to cover the atrocity altogether) without a single drop of water. When I told him his plant died, he tells me, "I guess you can't grow every plant." I agreed. He's been talking lately about wanting a Venus Flytrap after watching some plant documentary...I can live with that. Much better than an Oleander. I mean.....he might as well have brought a Sycamore tree home!
