Okay, your terminology is not correct. Verizon Wireless does not provide DSL. What they do provide is cellular 3G service via several different devices. Which device you choose would be up to you. Their normal service via a USB device is limited to 5GB per month @ $59.95 + taxes and fees. Using their MiFi device, you can opt for less (3GB per month) @ $35+. I never used the full 5GB since I do not stream music or movies and only watch an occasional UTube video. So I switched to the MiFi, and, after 2 months have just about used my 3GB limit each month. This does require a 2 year contract unless you buy the device from an individual or on EBay, which is what I did originally, but now I'm in a contract. If you do not get a good cellular signal where you live, forget this; otherwise you would need antennas, etc. which could get rather costly. When I travel, I use Verizon's 5GB USB internet service. I only pay when I use it. For example, I use it primarily when I visit a friend in Florida. They have no internet. We stay for 2 weeks and drive down, which takes about 5 days. I use it during the travel and in motels and the 2 weeks we stay at our friends house.

I will be charged $59.95 for that month. When we get home, I call Verizon and suspend the service. It is easy to use and works on any computer. Its a USB and you plug it into the laptop or desktop and it automatically connects.

Last year we took the auto-train to Fla. and it worked on the train making the trip less boring. I like to use it in hotels rather than using a open wireless connection. Works in the car - anywhere. I think the cost is worth the ease of use and safety.

Its like, pay-as-you-go. You can plug it in and use it when you need it, you will only pay for that month. There is no charge to suspend or start it up.

As grandms stated, you can get a 3GB for less cost, but I chose the 5GB. It is easy to use and runs flawlessly.

Yes, Nancy, it is my only Internet source at this time. I cannot get cable or DSL, so only satellite and cellular are available to me. I had satellite for about 2 years, and I have had the Verizon service for about that long. I don't have outages with the cellular service as I did with the satellite (bad weather), so I guess I could say I prefer it. Both sure beat dialup, but neither is extremely fast, especially during busy times of day when everybody is using their "smart phones".

When I was in a rural area, I used AT&T for 3G service. It was a ton faster than dial up. I got in on a great deal with no cap on usage and $60. a month. I went with AT&T because that's who I had cellular coverage with.

Don't know if this will help but I have Wildblue satellite for my "boonie" internet connection on my desktop. Very happy with the service I get from them. For my laptop I have the virgin mobile USB device. I bought the device from Walmart for about $100. For $20 a month, I get 1GB of service that is good for 30 days. This is a by the month no contract service. I have no trouble with this service either. It is like the service Jane has with Verizon. A pay as you need service. You might check into Virgin Mobile when deciding who to go with. Also the $20 a month service is connected to Walmart purchases.
Good luck to you....getting internet and cell phone service is so difficult for those of us who live in the boonies. I simply do not understand. I am only 10 miles from the heart of a large city, but still can't get DSL or reliable cell phone service.
