If neither one has a time commitment, you might as well try the DSL first. If you achieve 80% or more of your provisioned speed, you'll be doing great. The DSL will be less affected than the cable by the number of users on the node, I believe...although you didn't mention what speed the cable provides. If you decide to go with DSL, ask about getting a whole-house filter at the telephone box instead of using filters on each phone device in the house. You also didn't mention how many users will be on the service at any one time. If it is more than 2-or if internet gaming is involved...cable might be the better choice. I still think it's worth trying the DSL first. You can always change if it doesn't work out.

I'd probably go with DSL and put up a tv antenna.

Cable TV has priced itself out of the ball park for both tv and internet & has too frequent outages and slow downs around here. My TV is always freezing or blanking or pixelating during prime usage hours. Can't imagine having the tv and internet out at the same time. I'd have to clean or something.

I fixing to buy a tv antenna for here and save myself $60 monthly by canceling their supposedly 'basic' cable service.

I believe cable is the better option, especially if internet gaming or downloading large files is involved as Azinoh said. I have been mostly happy with the service here in Florida. Outages are infrequent. It really depends on what you will be primarily using it for and how often you will be using it. Cost is high but so is everything now. Both go from point A to point B but it depends what you want to drive.

Cable here. I researched the other servers and found they were all pretty much the same price if you get what you have presently. From what my friends said cable is more reliable with no hidden charges. We have Cox Cable here, we had Multimedia Cable before and it was good also.

IÂve had both. As far as internet, theyÂre pretty much the same price where I live. I prefer cable. Set up/install is much easier, equipment less expensive and in my case, about a third faster than the DSL I was getting. I just dumped AT&T (donÂt get me started) and went with Cox.

I had DSL briefly back in Fall '08 and upgraded to cable when a great deal from our local cable company (Allentown, Pa. area) came along. Oddly, ever since I moved the DSL to my relative's house across the street, she started having occasional issues with a temperamental modem.

My cable service, though, has been working fine. 5 meg download vs. 1 meg for DSL. And the total price (TV, phone, internet) of the Triple Bundle we now have with our cable co. is about $1 more per month than we were paying previously for TV (cable company), Verizon phone and dial-up internet ! Not sure how it would compare to the Verizon TV/Phone/DSL bundle, but I imagine the prices are fairly identical. (The only draw-back for us is that the phone goes out when the cable does, so it's good we have cell phones for those situations -- which haven't happened yet.)

I currently have verizon fios at my house and love it had Dsl before that and hated it, definitely get the house filter installed, if going dsl. i am currently moving and will not have the option of fios so my choice will likely be cable, I really would not want to deal with dsl again.

I'm putting my 2¢ worth just so you know than not everyone is unhappy with DSL. I had cable internet but when Comcast was going to increase my fee because I didn't have and didn't want TV they lost me as a phone customer and cable internet customer. I went to SBC Global (now the dreaded AT&T) phone service and DSL. I haven't had a bit of trouble with it in over 2 years. DSL quality depends not only on your distance from the supplier hub but also on the quality of your phone line and the line between you and the hub. Cable is faster most of the time but I never notice the difference unless I'm downloading a very large file.
If the price difference is an important consideration in your budget (as it is in mine) I would give DSL a try unless you have to commit for an extended period.

I'm in Arlington, VA (near Washington DC).

We got rid of cable internet (Comcast), but still have it for TV. Far too many inexplicable, regular outages or slowdowns in the cable internet service, which also knocked out our Vonage phone service during those times. Now we have Cavalier's DSL with phone combo - haven't had a single problem for 6 months since the install. Zero outages, perfect phone service and it's cheaper ($58/mo. including taxes). We're running at least two computers, sometimes three on it most times, and it's more than adequate.

BTw, if you watch online videos, newsclips etc, that's the only place you'll see the difference. If it takes you 3 seconds to donwload something on cable, it takes double on DSL, which doesn't bother us.

From what I've read, Cavalier's one of those services you either love or hate (and most reviews I've seen have more of the latter, esp. condemning its Customer Service as being somewhat incompetent). But maybe things have changed. ??? Glad you've been one of the lucky ones !! :-)

True, but we use auto payment and haven't had to deal with customer service - fortunately.

BTW, ALL phone company customer service is bad if you have to deal with them at all - and don't even get me started with Vonage customer service - they were one of the biggest time-wasters.
