Desktop icon for Thunderbird's calendar?

Hi,

I'm trying to find a way to make a desktop icon for Thunderbird's calendar feature. Does anyone know if that's possible? I'd like to be able to skip the step of opening Thunderbird and then clicking on Events and Tasks and then Calendar. Thank you!

are you talking about sunbird or something built into thunderbird? Have you tried sunbird?

I do not have thunderbird on anything right now so can not look at it, but I always used sunbird with it and you can have a sunbird icon on your desktop

Yes RC, it's built into Thunderbird. I will keep Sunbird in mind, though. Thanks!

Not sinister, but like TI is an example of a "big boy" given up on a market. Almost as bad as AT&T and consumer communications... all that's left is the rather successful iPOD (think that is what is called in wireless communications - and with a touch screen I believe). AT&T is a shadow of itself, he-l it was once a bigger employer than Walmart : ( My comment that may have started this was my shopping for a new Laptop (not a notebook this time, considering a 17.3" screen - non touch) and checking on Dell and HP to see if they were still in that business. Seems both have recognized, perhaps soon enough to survive, that personal computers with a mouse and keypad are going into history. I connected this with some lament that I can't now quantify, that Microsoft sales of Windows 8, indeed computer OS, is way down. This lead me to comment that we may all live (even an old guy like me) to see the end of MS, if not that then a much smaller and less profitable company. Given Gates and others at the top of MS are working hard to give their money away before the $#&% government gobbles it up with inheritance tax. Those folks know that will result in all their hard work and creativity being wasted by people who specialize in that game. Would I sell my MS stock if I had some? Yes, but as all that I hold is in mutual funds I don't have any control, I just hope the fund managers have a brain.

Thanks, the usual (expected, but thanks) excellent help from all. The Gateway load comes with a backup icon on the "desktop", but I'll also look at the suggestions in this thread. Is one DVD enough to create the backup/recovery disks? I recall needing several for W7, done a few years back, and I did use the recovery disk a couple of times. I believe Norton is blocking me installing Thunderbird, I gave up thinking when the good friends tell me how to get the control panel I'll uninstall Norton and then try to install Thunderbird. On that subject, can I port my Bookmarks (Firefox) and Folders (Thunderbird) from my W7 to W8 by Installing first on W8, then coping folders from the W7 to overwrite in W8? My Toshiba W7 64 Bit has a 1.6 GHz processor, I think the new Gateway has a 1.4 GHz, I can check but not on that machine at the moment. But the Gateway is the next gen, i.e., a so called dual-core. That may mean it is more like my old processor running at 2.8 GHz... then too W8 may be an improvement. Downloading I continue to be amazed at the size of programs, Mozilla and Avira all over 100 megabytes. Of course, I come from the days when a hard drive of 10 megabytes was good.

I tend to change as the mood strikes, usually once or twice a year. I have on that I like to use at Christmastime and other times, whatever I like to see. Ships, weather, nature are usually popular topics for me. Currently, I'm using the Arthur Anderson. One of the Great Lakes freighters and was the ship accompanying the Edmund Fitzgerald when the big Fitz went down. The Anderson was a matter of miles behind the Fitz so the history is interesting to me. I enjoy going to Duluth and watching the ships. Physics fascinates me. That tons of steel can float or fly is interesting to me.

I have Thunderbird on both of my computers, and it doesn't have a calender in it. The calender is Sunbird and it is available at the link in the post above

I decided to download Sunbird and it is the same calendar I'm already using except that I get to it by opening Thunderbird, choosing Events and Tasks and then Calendar. :)
Do you know how I could transfer everything on that calendar over to the new one I just downloaded? If not, I'll just transfer manually, but a shortcut would be great. Thank you for the suggestion...now I know I *can* have an icon on my desktop for it.

Pam I am sure there is a way but I no longer have sunbird so I can not check to see, there may be an import option like there is for firefox to import all your faves and settings, hopefully someone that uses sunbird can jump in and help.

there is a specific forum for sunbird you could definitely ask there and get people that know how to use it. what you want to do is sync your existing sunbird calendar with the new sunbird you just installed. There is a question similar to that on the forum now but has not been answered yet.

according to this article there is a method to import and export the calendar items.
