My heart goes out to Sherry and her kids plus the grands for the loss of this wonderfully sweet man. I have some very fond memories of Roger both at their home and here in Chicago.

Roger was a gentle man and a gentleman. He will be missed by many.

This was such a shock!! He was such a strong (in many ways) and as Annie says, put up with us graciously.

Talking to Sherry last week, she showed strength, but then we know our Sheshebop has an indomitable will and family support to get her through this.

Sherry is doing as well as can be expected, her family are there for her. I am afraid that after the services are over and everyone goes back home that she will have some very rough days ahead.

I have opted to visit Sherry as soon as I can, rather than going to the funeral, I think she will understand.

I remember the time when Annie wrote about Sherry and Roger coming to visit her. If I remember correctly, they stayed in their camper, which was parked in Annie's driveway. Roger seemed like such a nice guy and a good sport to support his wife's friendships.

It was just so sad to hear this news. I knew Roger had some health issues but thought that they were resolved and he was on his way to back to regular life. I feel just terrible about this and have been thinking of Sherry every since I got the news.

I know she is being very strong. Hugs to Sherry.

The service for Roger was this afternoon in a room full of his and Sherrys family and and many friends. There were tears as well as laughter as we paid our respects and said see you again someday. His son Eric and his granddaughter delivered very touching eulogies.

I, Annie and her DH Elery and many others on this forum had the joy of meeting Roger on several occasions. Quiet, stoic, tall and straight, he would deadpan some wonderful zingers to our antics. We invaded his home, disrupted his days and he took it all with good grace and I think laughed both with us and at us. When my Mom passed both he and Sherry came to Chicago for her memorial. I was indeed fortunate to have them there.

One of his greatest passions, after his love for Sherry, was fishing. I have a feeling that Roger is at a lake in heaven, catching some lovely fish.

He will be missed.

I'm late to the post, however I'm pleased to see so many old friends on this thread. Roger was indeed a gentleman in very sense of the world. I had the pleasure of his company during Canny Camp and he will forever be in my heart.
His hospitality and good humor will never be forgotten, I wish that I had photos of him digging out the front lawn to clear a clog in the septic tank after a group of crazy CF'ers disrupted the septic system! Never cross, he took it all in good stride. He was a true mensch.

Peppi, Thank you for the update, I'm glad you and Annie were there, I know it meant a lot to Sherry.

When the HG and I stayed with Roger and Sherry it was amazing how Roger and Ray hit it off like they were long time friends. They talked at length and didn't need the wives to facilitate at any point.

Ellen, thanks for reminding me about the septic tank problem. At the time I was thinking about how we would have freaked out, but Roger was cool as the proverbial cucumber.

I have tried three times to send all my thanks and this darned arm brace keeps hitting a key that closes this out. Thank you all for the kind words and memories about my wonderful husband. Thank you Peppi and Annie (and Elery) for being with me and for those with me in spirit. And thank you Barb (a lurker for many years) for coming also. And Peppi, thank you for that picture. That was his favorite shirt and I have slept with it every night since he passed. Dexter misses his Daddy so much, as do our little grandchildren that we are raising. Tristin wonders who will take him fishing. I am still in shock and don't know where to start...I start tidying the house, then get sidetracked by cleaning out his papers...then get sidetracked again. Your strength and prayers are needed and wanted. Thanks again for remembering me and for all the kind thoughts, words, and memories.

I'm so glad I have the memories from the time we met for dinner in Durham a few years ago. It was a fun evening for all of us.

Peppi, I agree, Roger is standing at the River Jordan, a fishing pole in one hand and a root beer in the other, with an endless supply of "beaver flicks" ready for the fly rod.

Sherry, Elery and I were privileged to be there to help send Roger on to his next great adventure, Elery liked Roger very much and greatly enjoyed his wry sense of humor and endless good humor. I'm sad they never got to take that fishing trip together, but the fishing will be even better in the next life.

If Eric doesn't fish, maybe Tristan will have to take Elery instead....

I will remind you that I not only have a farm and a horse, I have grandchildren that would love to play with Tristan and Arianna, and a lake full of bluegill right down the road. You know I'll come and get you and my invitation extends to the grandkids as well as you.

OMG...I'm sorry (laughing out loud...and snorting...)"endless supply of Beaver Flicks" just brought back a flood of really fun memories of the Michigan Run party at Annie's when I first met Roger and Elery. (Guffaw!)
