I am going back to work on Monday the 23rd after 4 weeks off. I will probably have to make quite a few accommodations to do my job, but wild horses could not keep me away. I went to the opthalmologist yesterday, and he told me that this clot would NOT go away, but that I would eventually become accustomed to it being there. It has seemed to lighten up in appearance. Now it is like you have your hair in your eyes and you want to brush it away, but it is not your hair; it's that nuisance clot sitting in front of our optic nerve. As Shakespeare would say, "Out, Damn Clot!" (took a little poetic license there)

Your kind words and thoughts were so wonderful, even though I just today was able to read them. I have to say, I loved Peppi's imagery of a little Pac Man chewing his way through the debris behind my eye, LOL.
So, it is not easy to read. It takes a lot out of me. But I will not let this little obstacle hold me back.
I felt sorry for myself for the first two weeks, you know, the "Why me?" syndrome. I only have one eye and this had to happen?
Now, however, I think about the allergory of feeling bad cause I have no shoes, then meeting a man without any feet. So, the residue of this clot is no longer an obstacle but a challenge.

Wow, wonderful news, Sherry! And maybe he's wrong, and it will go away. So glad to hear you'll be able to get back to work.

Linda, the clot was caused because my BP was too high, so when the vitreous detachment ( a natural thing in older people) occurred, the high BP caused the vessels to spurt blood right into the eye fluid. I had stopped taking BP medicine when I lost 40 lbs. and it was not a problem. However, when I lost my job last year and sat home for 8 months, I cooked, baked, and ate my weight back to 35 of those pounds, but never rechecked my BP. Stupid of me.
Everybody, keep your BP under control.

I really believe the clot will absorb....and eventually sink to the bottom of your vision field and not be so bothersome.

Good to hear from you Sherry! I never take a doc's work for anything. I'm a stubborn SOB and also, I've seen doctors be wrong one too many times.

So I agree that you should see a specialist for a second opinion, and I don't understand how this will not go away, doesn't make sense to me.

Belated but sincere prayers Sherry to keep the vision that you do have. You said it all...regarding your attitude. When you think of it, and are sitting quietly (bwahaha) hold your middle finger. Think of that one as the f-yu finger which also relates to high bp. "We see red."

Just hold that finger, either hand, and you'll notice the pulse settle down in time. JinShinJyutsu

Here's a quick bit on the fingers

Thumb - worry
Index - fear
Middle - anger
Ring - sadness
Pinky - pretense, or trying to or(too hard)

Think of it...sucking your thumb is a pacifier; pointing your finger at someone else usually means you're afraid of something, middle one is a classic anger gesture, ring is associated with love/emotion - sadness, and the pinky I think of holding the little finger out while drinking tea/coffee, not being who you really are

Work today and yesterday was so very hard. I was in tears by noon today, but am better now. Good thing I knew about the f-u finger Maureen, LOL. But all the stress is in my neck and shoulders right now, and I wish somebody could walk on them. Maybe I will just go drink a bunch of Limoncello. Surely that would help.

I'm just able to check back on this thread to see how you're doing, Sherry. I think it's wonderful you're back to work, although I'm sorry it's so difficult for you.

I kind of understand that hair in the eye thing, as I have growths on my eyeballs that give me that feeling all the time. I never can remember what they're called, but it's one of those words that start with pts...or tps, or some other odd spelling. Anyway, it's not nearly as serious as a blood clot, but is ugly and irritating nontheless. My Opthamologist allows me to use the tear type eye drops, but not the kind that "gets the red out." Are you allowed to use eye drops to ease the discomfort?

Sally, eye drops just don't work for my problem. thanks so much for your suggestion and concern though. And it truly is getting easier, but I gotta tell you, I don't know when I needed a weekend away so badly. And to think I am gong to be pampered in Chicago! (Thank you Cathy) Dang, I think I will milk this eye thing for all I can get!
