While you are waiting for some help, read another post on the same question.

Here is a link that might be useful: posting photos

1. Make sure the photo is an appropriate size (pixels X pixels) to display where you want to post it.

2. Make sure it is saved in an appropriate format -- (jpeg, gif, png). For photos JPEG (.jpg) is the best choice.

3. Place or upload the photo to an internet server where it will be accessible with a url. If you access the internet via an ISP (internet service provider) your ISP may provide you with storage space as part of the package. Otherwise you can use one of the many available services (free or not) -- photobucket is a good choice (see link below).

Here's a url that identifies an image:

It's an image from the home page of GardenWeb.

4. To make the image show in this post the url must be placed within an HTML formating tag. The tag to display an image is: <img src="url">.

5. To display the image identified by the above url, place this in your post:

5. If you use a service like photobucket you want to be sure that they permit external links to the content (photobucket does). Then all you need is the url of your photo. Once you upload the photo to their site, they'll give you the url.

I took the above image from GardenWeb, changed it a little, uploaded it to photobucket and here's the url now:

Just a word of advice if you are storing your pics on your own ISP space, and using the "" code, don't get the URL address from the address bar in your internet browser, right click the picture itself, go to properties and copy the address URL that is listed there. This is what threw me! I had the pic in the browser and assumed the URL would be what was in the above address window, but it was not...

OK, I'm getting the hang of this. With the photo uploaded to Photobucket, I used this code:

(replace "*" with "i")

and took this photo, originally a 1024x768 pix photo I use as wallpaper. It made it just the right size for forums/email. Just remember, when you use the above code you only need to copy the "URL Link" line. If you choose not to use the above code, you would copy the "HTML Code" line. The third line, "IMG Code - Forums & Bulletin Boards" doesn't seem to work in GW Forums. I like using photobucket (there are probably other sites as well) and editing the photo with the above code, because if you choose to edit the photo in photobucket, once you make it smaller you can't return it to its original size, unless you want to reupload it. Anyway, I copied a shortcut of a little notepad file to my taskbar that has all the html codes in it, for posting pics, changing fonts, colors, etc. and when I need it I just click, copy and paste....very easy.

I remember there was a quicker, easier way to post a pic. About a year ago, someone mentioned Tinypic.com. You just upload your picture and copy one of the tag lines and paste it here. I can't remember how I did it. You didn't have to type anything and Tinypic doesn't keep your pictures. You just would upload and copy it here.

I used Tinipic, which is free, you don't have to sign-up for anything. Real quick. I copied the HTML tag and pasted it here.

yes, but you notice that now, the picture is gone in the post that I used the "right click" option. I found out it is because Yahoo Photo does not support uplinking to public sites (such as gardenweb) The pic initially viewed here, but later, when I closed my yahoo photo link, the pic disappeared from here. I know photo bucket has a box you can check which would link an active thumbnail of the photo, where a viewer would click the thumbnail to view the original size photo, a great tool, especially for those who have dialup and don't want to view reg size photos.

As to your question about how to reduce the size of you pic when using the tinypic link, I will check out tinypic and see if I can figure it out...

Here, I started with the code (replace * with "i")and replaced the URL with the URL link from tinypic: http://i9.tinypic.com/2ni8wp4.jpg... I'm sure you were looking for and easier way...

BTW: the one thing to be aware of on tinypic is that your photos are being posted to a public server and they stay there, even afer you log off. In the little viewing screen where you photo is viewed, there is a button to view previous photo, that being previous photos of the folks who used the site before you came along. I didn't intend to be nosey, but there were some pretty personal photos on the tinypic server (only one that that clearly broke their rule of "no nudity or violence"), but clearly I'm sure that many of these people had no idea that their photos being viewed by the public, at least, if I were in their shoes I wouldn't want them too!

posted from photo bucket, thumbnail view... really no more time than tinypic, and your photogallery can only be viewed by you... after trying both I have to say I like photobuck better, IMHO

OK, now I'm confused. On the pic in the previous post, I uploaded it as regular size, then edited it to a thumbnail, yet when I copied the html code to the forum, it came up as regular size... Can't explain how that happened. I deleted it and reuploaded it as a thumnail, and it gave me a thumbnail.

OK, folks, sorry for all the pics, I should probably be doing this in the test section. Anyway, I believe this would be the best way to post a forum pic: a clickable thumbnail. Below is step by step instructions on how to make one:

1. Log into your Photobucket account

2. Select the image that you would like to generate HTML for by checking the radio box below the thumbnail image (ex.: th_2qn12pz.jpg).

3. Click on the 'Generate HTML and IMG code' button at the bottom of your album.

4. Copy the "HTML clickable thumbnail for ebay, Livejournal,Myspace, etc." code

5 paste the code to your Forum message and it will come out like below:

...now click the above thumbnail for the large picture.

(Iknow for you folks who have been around here for awhile, you have probably seen and anwered this question a thousand times. My appologies!

Boy John, you are persistant! I didn't know about tinypic and still can't believe some of those photos. I thought you just used it to upload and then it disappeared. I guess my orchid pic is floating around. I dont' care.
I'm not a picture person. Don't know how to use a camera, so wait for my hubby to take some. I have Picassa on the computer just to do some simple editing. I really have no interest in signing up for a whole set-up like Photobucket.

Btw, I discovered something on my computer called 'Microsoft Office Picture Manager.' Comes up on the 'Open With Menu' and it is a simple photo editing program. It resizes pictures quickly. I think I'll try it here. Lets see what happens.

Oh Well....now it's too small. And I just discovered, if you click on the picture, it takes you to Tinypic. That's not good!

I don't like it either Jane. The way to avoid it is to copy the URL and then in your post type:

That's not too big, in fact it's small @ 10.49 KB (10740 bytes)

It looks so big on my screen. So I guess that's the size to use 'email.'
