Who has an Intercom System?
Comments (8)I have the Nutone 5000. It is an expensive system to buy new. I bought components in 3 different eBay auctions to put together my system. Saved bunches over the prices at the link below. Every item I bought worked perfectly- some of the room station units were used, but still looked good. One purchase was from a fellow who bought and planned to install, but was transferred and sold the house before the installation. With the proper input units, it can broadcast radio and music through the system- I do not have those units. Mine required special-only from Nutone- 8 conductor cable. Look at the systems that are part of the telephone. Lots of folks use them now. Here is a link that might be useful: Intercom...See MoreIntercom system
Comments (5)I am giving up medicine and going in to the low voltage rip-off scam. I'll be ready to wire up your house soon. $20 baby monitors work pretty well. The advantage with wireless is that you can put the speaker in your pocket and be on the deck (or sometimes at the neighbors). I prewired the bedrooms with extra cat-5 to maybe listen in but I may never hook it up. Another option to wireless is a phone system with built in intercom. These are far cheaper and don't add to wall clutter and make more sense since the phone can be placed at a desk they are working at or on a nightstand etc. My house is wired up (security, HDTV feeds, speakers, even some prewire for automated lighting) but I didn't do the intercom thing. The wife didn't want it but sometimes it would be nice since the house is big and has a basement. Go check out the phones and put the $2800 back in your pocket....See MoreM & S systems intercom/music system??
Comments (1)The DMC3/4 isn't the system you'd want regardless, since it's a model made to replace an old unit. The unit you would want would be the DMC1, which is meant for a new installation. And apparently that system wouldn't do the things you're wanting anyway. 1. There is no "isolated" paging function. 2. The music sound quality will leave a lot to be desired. 3. Intercom to the gate will possibly be an issue, if the distance is lengthy. And your budget number isn't going to get you there either..... Really sounds like you need a custom installation company that can point you in the right direction, as well as recommend some various options that WILL get the job done. I'd recommend Russound for the sound/paging, with a Viking Telco unit for the gate. Possibly you can find if a CEDIA member in your area? Link below. Comments (2)Do you have a computer?? "I mostly want it to monitor my children sleeping..." Security, Video & motion monitoring software running on computers can now be had at a very reasonable price. Hardwired camera's are best - but you can use wirelss. But the static in the wirelss tends to confuse the system. Computer ON. Security Monitor program: Running Any change in monitored area(s) - (computer is scaning video) - the computer raises whatever alarm you desire. Look up computers, video monitoring, security, etc....See Morefrog_hopper
