As a matter of fact, I usually go to Microsoft Updates to receive my updates. This way I can read about them and decide which ones to download and install. Yes, it does work with automatic updates.

I usually use windows update site rather than the microsoft update, if you have office products on your pc then going to the microsoft update will get you those updates also.

As Ravencajun said, Microsoft and Windows are set separate updates, however, you can get both and select only the ones you want by changing your settings.

If you are using Win7, type Windows Update in the search box (just above the start button). Then select "Change Settings." Under "Important Updates" there is a drop-down menu, select "Check for updates but let me decide whether to install them." You will get a notice there are updates available and you can review the list and check only the ones you want. So you don't want to keep getting the ones you don't want, right click on the ones you don't want and select "don't show again". The "don't show again" can be restored if you change you mind.

You can also change your settings to allow Microsoft updates and select only the ones you want, as well.

If you are running XP to go Control Panel/Category View/Security Center/Automatic Updates and select "Notify me but don't automatically download or install them."

My Win 7 with Office 2007 had 16 updates on Tuesday and everything still works. Just for those who might be wondering.

Owbist is right. So many updates this week, I unchecked some I didn't need. I let Windows notify me that updates are waiting, I then read about them and only take the updates I need.

as to the new latest batch of updates I have heard reported some people having problems with the .NET updates. In fact there was an article in Windows Secrets about it.

Had 14 incl NET updates and no problems...I think that half of the reported problems if not more stem from those who dont look after their machines ie periodic cleaning with temp removal and adware scans etc...
