Everything was slow, so I did all I knew to do, now it is worse.

Old Dell xp, FF13 (And some version of IE I never use but it is even slower.)

Everything was slow. Click the bookmarks folder and it took a second for the drop-down. Some like Slate and Washingtonpost were even slower.

So, I ran all my anti-virus and malware utilities. I did disk cleanup and defrag. I did restart. I unplugged everything from the wall and powered back up.

Now it is even slower. I click on the bookmarks folder and it takes three seconds for the dropdown.

What do I do next?

What do you do now? Have patients, tend to the weeds, and watch for pests. In my opinion, you probably want to water two or three times per week for the first week, then down to twice a week for the next week or two then, as mudflapper says, once a week should be just fine unless it gets hot. I would increase the frequency of the watering for these first few weeks only because your seedlings need to develop their roots for a bit. However, you should be checking on your soil moisture several inches down. If it still quite moist don't water! When you do water, make sure you are watering deeply (ensure that the water is soaking the soil down to six or eight inches), then trust that the roots will get there. Have patients! Trust the slow release of your fertilizer, but watch for anything strange with your plants, especially off colors. If you get anything that is off color, check back here. If you start to see pests, take a picture and check back here. If other strange things begin to pop up, check back here. Have patients! You will, most likely, start to see some positive changes in many of your seedlings in a few days and most of them within a week. You will see some really dramatic changes at about two to three weeks. Steve Oh, did I mention that you should be patient? It's difficult, but try.

LOL....I was just on the Maryott's site myself...saw those 2 beauties he's offering for a $75 order. I guess my will power is better than I thought, I didn't add to my already large order even though Something Angelic has been one I've wanted for a while now. :) I still have beds to get ready for those already ordered for this fall, and I'm about to leave for a couple of weeks to spend some time in PA with my DH on the job he's doing there, so not much time left to get beds ready. I certainly don't need to be adding to my order. LOL Glad you found some more beauties though....your garden will be lovely next year. Jan

I'm not sure what the going rate for installing tile is in your area, but in mine, I've found that it runs $5-7/sq ft (not including the tile, grout, thinset, etc.) which can easily run the cost up quit significantly depending on what tile you choose. The going rate for hardwood floors in my area (the sand and finish kind) is around $8.00/sq ft. Luckily, we are getting ours for around $6.50 sq ft because of a friend (4" red oak). Therefore, we are opting to replace all flooring that we can (with the exception of the two kids' bathrooms) with hardwood. It's cheaper, warmer, doesn't have grout lines to clean, and can be refinished if needed. I would seriously consider declawing the "puppy" and refinishing the wood floors. Changing out tile in the future will cost a ton in demo and I think that most buyers are fond of hardwood floors, with many HATING tile.

A man. It was a matter of subject focus, or rather the lack thereof. She (the writer) began talking about everyone she mentioned, instead of continuing the subject's life story. Example: (name changes of course) "Taylor Doe was born to John and Jane Doe. She birthed a son, Jack, and lived in the Miama, Florida area until relocating to Michigan." She was talking about his mother, Jane Doe, birthed a son named Jack. Weird way to introduce the decedent's sibling, but the biggest problem is I had no idea she suddenly began talking about his mother. She even went on to tell what his mother did for a living. She did that a few times. Later on after mentioning the marriage, she said they had no children, but he fathered a daughter. Then, she began talking about the wife. I was totally confused. I woke her at around 7. After establishing it was about a man, I just deleted all she wrote about other people in favor of focusing on him. When listing the survivors, she stipulated his wife, then wife's name, then five other names without stipulating the relationships of these five other people. Knowing they can't all be his wife LOL, I asked who they are to him. She said they are his children. Another alarm since she already established he only fathered one daughter. I guess they are her children, his stepchildren. I also had to clarify some spellings since deciphering her handwriting was rather difficult. Thanx for asking.

you could have your answer in your first description OLD Dell
if it is old you may be very low on RAM memory that will make it increasingly slow, when was the last time you opened up the case and cleaned it out the dust bunnies do affect the way it runs and heat build up is one of the worst things for a pc.

Tell us your pc specs including how much RAM you have and how much free HD space you have.

you can use this free program by the makers of malwarebytes to see what all is starting up at boot, lets see the list and there may be some things that can be altered.

Might right click the taskbar on the bottom and select TaskManager ... look for whats using probly the most cpu under the processes tab.

If something is spinning the cpu wheels & pulleys too much .. that may be what's slowing things down.

Right click My Computer > Manage > Device Manager. See if there is a bright yellow '?' or '!' in the list that opens.

I called in my IT person, aka spouse, and she removed ad-aware (I had upgraded it back before things went really bad as described in the OP.) Now my ''old Dell" with xp is working a well a could be expected.

Use free malwarebytes, much better than adaware, update, run full scan once a week or so
